I have no idea what is going on with my band but I have not lost any weight for a year now. I have restriction most of the time and I am always upchucking my foods and my PB is something awful. Can someone tell me what the symptoms are of a flipped or slipped band? I know I should go see my doctor but I dont have the money to do it now that I dont have insurance anymore.

Hi there,

It's horrible whe our bands aren't doing what we hope.

I suspect you need a slight unfill and are not losing weight because when you do eat it comes back so you are tending to eat slider food or liquid calories.

Things are just so much more managble when you have the correct fill level.  I know you are financially in a tight spot but you really need to head in to see your Dr asap.

In the meantime I would go on a liquid diet for a week to let things settle down, it is probably inflamed around your band.

I personally don't think your band has slipped yet but if you continue to pb (or worse the wretching vomit) it will slip.   BTW - Bands slip and Ports flip.

There are lots of different symptoms of slips and every person is different, but when my band had slipped I had it completely unfilled and still could not keep down even liquids. The vomitting had become a black acid that looked like coffee grounds - evil, evil stuff !

So to end - go on good low calorie/high protein liquids for a week or two, the mushies for a week or 2 and hopefully things will settle down enough while you save some $$ to see the Doc.

Good Luck and I hope this helped.

It appears that your band is too tight, getting some saline removed is a lot cheaper and less complicated than having to eventually get your band removed, because if you don't get an unfill very soon, that's where you are heading.

If you have not lost weight in a year, are you doing your part? Like exercising and drinking water. Also, if you are too tight it will be impossible to get the required fluids, healthy lean proteins and veggies in, in order to lose weight. I am sure if you are too tight, you are eating unhealthy foods which defeats the whole purpose of banding and weight loss.

Band slippage symptoms differ with each patient but the classic symptoms are constant reflux, chest pains, frequent vomiting and frothing at the mouth, only your surgeon can tell if your band has slipped with an Upper GI, I would think if you are vomiting that frequently you need to go to the ER and have them bill you, they have surgeons there that can access the port.
