protein trouble

I am having trouble getting in all the protein I need.  I am looking for suggestions.  I am currently on soft foods (the stage just past mushies).  I've only been able to get around 50 gms or so a day for the last couple of days but I know I need 70.  Someone told  me about peanut flour from Trader Joes but the stores by me do not carry them.  Help?

You will probably need to still drink some of your protein drinks at this time. If I remember correctly I had to drink one at night .

Have you tried refried beans  ? I really liked that as a protein with cheese on top which adds extra protein .

Eat some cheese for snacks that is high in protein bu****ch how much its high in fat .  I always added cheese to everything that I could lol.

I was allowed to eat chicken at this stage but I ate the chicken that came from the deli that they cook .  I always ate the dark meat because it is more tender and juicy .  I ate alot of that during this stage .  chicken is extremly high in protein .  3 oz has almost 23 grams of protein in it .

Fresh or frozen fish like cod or tilipia is also high in protein; one serving has about 20g of protein.  (Not the batter dipped stuff...very little protein, but a good bit of fat and carbs. :P)

And just like the previous poster said, drink some protein shakes.

Greek yogurt has about 14 or 15g per serving.  Cottage cheese is up there, too.

Peanut butter has some protein, but it's really high in fat, but spread it on some cheese for a change every now and then.

You really should be able to eat chicken at this point...moist, well cooked, and chew it well.

Congrats on beginning your journey and good luck!

I just bought some protein powder to sprinkle on food....but I've not tried it yet.  I did eat a lot of refried beans during my mushy stage

Supplement with protein shakes. Also you can add protein powder to sf pudding, Greek yogurt, broth. I also did a lot of quiche early out.

Trader Joe's no longer has the peanutbutter flour. They have a lot of other awesome products though!

This would be good for early out also. I just posted this on my blog a few days ago:

Bariatric Foodie Four Cheese Protein Mashed Cauliflower Recipe…..Yum!

Posted on by MariaFitzpatrick

One problem I have is that I don’t like most veggies. I do however like cauliflower, and I LOVE cheese! So I was thrilled to find this recipe from Nik of Bariatric Foodie for the four cheese protein mashed cauliflower!

Nik’s Four Cheese Protein Mashed Cauliflower Recipe

Ingredients 1 large head cauliflower, cut into florets (or two bags frozen florets) 2-4 oz. of three different kinds of cheese (I used leftover asiago, monterey jack and sharp cheddar) 1 egg, beaten 6 oz. container Greek yogurt 2 tablespoons light butter spread (I used Blue Bonnet Light), melted 1/4 c. whole wheat bread crumbs 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese Dashes of: onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper and paprika Directions Boil cauliflower florets until tender, drain and mash. Mix in cheeses, yogurt and whatever spices you like, except the paprika (keep the cauliflower in the pot when you do this). Stir thoroughly then mix in the egg. Transfer mixture over to a 13 x 9 casserole dish. In a small bowl, combine bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and “butter."

Spread evenly over cauliflower mixture and top with a dash or two of paprika.
Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or until top is nicely browned.

So I made an attempt at cooking. It’s actually a very quick and easy meal! Mine doesn’t look quite as good as Nik’s, but it tastes GREAT!

This is how my Bariatric Foodie four cheese protein mashed cauliflower recipe turned out!

Maria this looks delicious!  I'm so sorry about your band troubles.  Hope your latest problem is short term and not at all band related.  You try to help people on this board, and I appreciate that!  Thank you.

Thanks so much Debbie!

It may very well be a one time incident. I hope so anyway. I was just kind of hoping that some of the other bandsters problems didn't start off like this. As long as it doesn't happen again, I'll just assume it was just a fluke.

Thanks for your responses...I tried the cauliflower recipe and it was delicious.  My children actually liked it to - thanks.  I have been doing better with my protein.
