2 1/2 weeks post op and waiting for Dr.'s call back
Waiting on my surgeon to call but in the meantime I thought some of you could shed some light on my symptoms. Thurs. I had a great check up and everything has gone downhill since:( I bent over to put on shoes Thurs. and I felt a pull where my port is and it has been sore ever since. Earlier that day I swallowed my meds and they got stuck and stayed that way for the rest of the day. I backed off of pureeds and took liquids for 24 hours. Last night I tried to eat some grits and they got stuck and I was in alot of pain. Took about 1/2 hours for the pain to subside. I am not a complainer but I am concerned. I hope I didn't mess up something.....I have followed my dr's guidelines to a tee so what is up????

Keep monitoring, but your probably fine. Pain in the port should equate to trouble in with the band unless your tubing becomes detatched. Even then you would possibly only lose saline and would become looser.
The port is stitched to the muscle wall and takes the longest to heal. I was still feeling tweaks and twinges for 3 months post op. Now that I've lost a great amount of weight my port is closer to the surface and I feel it often if I bump it, lay on it wrong or exercise my core a lot. Even if you pulled a stitch your probably fine. It may change position but you won't know that until your next fill. Mine tilts one way but it's still accessible.
The sudden tightness can be from stress, water retention, eating something previously that irritated your stoma/esophagus, (maybe something cruncy with sharp eges or something spicy, with caffeine or chocolate can also irritate my band. I once had to have an unfill for eating popcorn because we think those little husk things imbedded somewhere along the way and caused swelling). Stick to the liquids and try not to take your meds in the a.m. or at least take them with a warm beverage. If you're still not better in another 24 hours or so, make another call.
Hang in there and feel better!

Grits are like polenta...I can't eat it...it is like putting glue in my pouch and guaranteed to get me into trouble...get some papaya enzyme (pharmacy in the supplement section) and keep some in your purse for when you are out. It is a god-send.
Your port area can become sore if you strain your abs at all at this stage. You might even see some bruising...
I would go back to pureed soups et****il you see your doctor, just to be safe.
