I am 10 days post op and pretty hungry?  Does anyone know if I can get a small fill when I go to my post op appointment on Tuesday?  I am following a 2 week liquid, for the most part, diet.  I can have fat free yogurt and pudding too which are a bit heavier than protein drinks and broth.  I am really surprised at how hungry I am though.  Will this change when I add mushies to my diet on Thursday?  Please let me know what you all know or think.

Mushyies well help a lot but in the meantime don't give up.  Just up your fluids and make sure you have something liquid with you at all times.  If it gets terrible add another shake.

It's normal to start feeling hunger.  The swelling is starting to go down and you won't have much, if any, restriction yet without a fill or two.  This period is often called Bandster Hell, because you don't have restriction and you body is wondering "where the heck is all the food I'm used to getting?".  Hang tight.  Mushies are coming and you will be so happy to eat something more solid that you will forever remember your first mushy meal.  (mine was mashed potatoes with gravy.  It was Thanksgiving day, can you imagine?)  My favorite mushy meal is FF refried beans with some melted LF cheese and salsa.  Later I would add diced chicken.  I still go it when I'm feeling tight.

It all depends on your surgeon if you will get a fill or not.  My surgeon waits 6 weeks post op, but he also gives a primer fill at surgery which some doctors do and some don't.  You should ask yours if he put anything in your band when he placed it.

Hang in there!  I had to do 3 weeks post op of liquids, so it could be worse!

Best~

I've heard of doctor's giving fills that early, but allergan (maker of the lapband) doesn't recommend starting fills till 6 weeks from surgery.  I'm not sure about what realize band recommends.

Changing to soft (or mushie) foods should help some with the hunger.  What helped me the most was protein and avoiding carby foods.

If allowed, try stirring some protein powder into your puddings.  Or have greek yogurt instead of regular.  Greek has much more protein.  Watch the sugars tho.. the sugars in the greek with fruit are way too high.  Better to get the plain and add some Splenda or Truvia.  Also look into getting some s/f Davinci or Torani flavored syrups, they help with flavoring things.

Hang in there.. it will get better.

And remember, even when you do start getting fills, it may take 2 or 3 (or even more) to get good appetite control.  I don't mean to be discouraging, just don't pin your hopes on only one fill.  This is a long journey.. not a race.  :)

Thanks everyone!  I did learn I have 2cc's in my band because they thought I had blockage the first day due to my esophagus.  I feel pretty normal when I swallow my yougurt(no restriction).  I only eat the Greek yogurt because of the protein and thickness but thanks for the recommendation.  I am looking forward to that first mushie:-)  I have the LAP band so if it is not recommended fromt he maker than I will probably not be getting a fill....I will stay stong.

Chewing on ice chips (I made frozen christal light with protein powder) or gum helped me...The "act" of chewing sorta makes up for not actually eating..You know..like when you quit smoking you suck on something else..
This is what helps me..some docs don't let you do gum...
