Hunger just after surgery

I am having my surgery on 7/6/11.  I was wondering if anyone was hungry after surgery since there is very little fluid in the band?

I felt hunger in the hospital. They give you broth and jello, and eventually, the shakes will fill you up. But after almost 24 hours without any food,  just the IV, I wanted to eat....
Good luck...

I wasn't extremely hungry.. just normal hunger and was satisfied with the things I was allowed to have.

Every doctor is different.  I came out of surgery with 3cc's already in my band.

I had no fluid in my band at the time of my surgery.

I started to get my appetite back at about day 4 post-op.

At that time, I was allowed to have 'full liquids', so I would 'eat' every 2- 3 hours or so

8am -- yogurt
11am -- small protein shake
1 pm -- cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup
4pm -- pudding (made with protein powder/pudding mix and skim milk
6 - 7 pm -- more cream of whatever soup
9 pm -- small yogurt or protein shake

At that phase of the journey, I think that it is REALLY a mind game.
I convinced myself that the band all alone (even without fluid in it) was more restriction than I had before the surgery.
I visualized that the band was in there, limiting my ability to eat.

In between those 'meals', I waited 30-60 minutes and then I drank water.

I made a list of '25 things to do besides eat' -- and I used that to distract myself from food.

There are several WLS groups in the Tucson area (a few of them focus on Bandsters) let me know if you want more info about them.

thank you for all your help. I go to my pre-op appt. tomorrow, so I will ask her if any fluid will be in the band at first.

I had no fluid in my band and didn't get a fill until I was 3 months out per my choice.  I just didn't have much hunger and never experienced the "bandster h_ll"  that some experience.  I followed my surgeon's eating plan and lost 30 pounds in 3 months.

Good luck on your surgery!
