I am 18 months out from surgery.  Does anyone else get gas where they need to burp all day long?    When I get like this even liquids that I drink nake an air pocket and I must gag myself to get relief.  Please share if have this or know how I can avoid it.  Thank you.

Have you discussed this with your surgeon?  This is not normal.  You shouldn't have to "gag" yourself.

Are you drinking carbonated drinks?  Are you using a straw?

I notice that I have lots of burping when I eat a little too much.

Also a tight band will make me burp more often.  I got a tiny fill (.2cc) 2 weeks ago and I'm still adjusting to it.

I never have to gag myself though, that doesn't seem to be a good thing.  Talking to your surgeon sounds like a good idea.

I had a .25cc fill on Tuesday and I was able to eat fine yesterday and last night.  It has only been today that i started to experience this.  I haven't had a carbonated drink 20 months.  i do drink with a straw and i have from day one.  Is a straw a nono?

Sometimes it can take days - even weeks - for your fill to "settle" in.  So while you could eat yesterday, today might be different.  Are you able to eat solid foods today even though you have the burping issue?  Under no cir****tance should you need to gag yourself, for anything, ever.  I would see my doctor immediately if I even felt an urge to do this as it can cause severe band damage (slippage, etc.) if you succomb to that urge.

You may be just a bit too tight and require a *slight* unfill (like .10ccs even helps).  Stay in tune with your body over the next couple of days and don't delay if you think this might be the case. :) For me, I burp a lot if I eat too fast. Good luck to you!

Okay great...that's a good sign if you can eat.  BTW, not sure if you have experienced this yet with your band since surgery, but many people are tighter in the mornings when they are at their "sweet spot," which is usually helped by drinking something as hot as you can stand it first thing in the morning to "prime" your band for the day.  This always works for me.  Good luck!

Using a straw isn't a no-no unless you're having issues with gas.. we tend to take in more air when we use a straw.  Try foregoing a straw and see if it helps.

Since you just got a new fill Tuesday, I bet that's the problem.  Also try smaller bites, putting your fork down between bites, chewing well.. all the slow, mindful eating tricks.  Make sure that whatever protein (meat) you have over the weekend is tender (not necessarily a mushie type, but tender.. there's a difference in my book).

If you're still having lots of issues Monday, give your surgeon a call.  They're there to help.

I am new to this but my center and surgeon both do not recommend ever using a straw with the band.  Good luck and keep us informed about your progress.
