I feel as though the lapband forum is becoming over thrown by anti-banders! It is just pure ignorance for people to believe that one surgery is better than another.  Especially when we are INDIVIDUALS with factors that EFFECT each one of us DIFFERENTLY.  This is why we have choices.

I understand commenting on newbie pro/con questions or one vs. the other questions, but let's be real.  There is a difference between FORCING YOUR OPINION and giving.  We all had to make the same choices at some point.  Some of you anti-banders sound as if you are just sitting back WAITING FOR THE NEXT FAILURE so you can have a celebration; an I TOLD YOU SO!  The post with the pic parade is suppose to celebrate your progress and some banders were told that their success is nearing its end.  THE NERVE!

I am not trying to be a freedom leader!  I am just hoping that you guys tone it down because your comments not only AFFECT the decision makers but those who have made theirs already!

If this is what you're referring to:

"
It's so much fun in the beginning when the weight melts off, but the end is so slow."

I didn't understand that statement to mean that the success was nearing the end.. but that the loss goes so slowly as you get closer to goal...

Or is there something else I'm missing?

I think the harsh and abrasive undertones stem from their personal experience and frustration with their bands (some people have had MAJOR problems that we just can't understand)...and lack of support on the board sometimes from certain people that accuse them of failing due to "not following rules" and such.  Imagine if that were you...

While I agree that their approach can be considered aggressive by some, I still respect their personal stories and experiences and feel they have the right to share them as they see fit (this is an open, public forum after all)...unless they personally attack me or something like that, I take no offense by it. And if they did...I'd speak on it.

You can just block them if you don't wan't to read it, you know.

Personally, rather than complain, I choose to respond by supporting people that have failed bands while still peppering the boards & forum significantly with *MY* positive, wonderful, happy experience, so newbies can see both extremes.  They share theirs...I share mine.  Just because they don't agree with me and I haven't had the same experience as them, does NOT make their opinions wrong - no matter what the delivery is in a forum post.  I have just as much love for my band as they do hate for theirs, so it all evens out in my opinion.  If you are happy with your band like I am, share your experience!  It will have a much better effect and impact than complaining about it, I promise!

Just my 2 cents. :)

In no way, shape, form, or fashion am i trying to say they have no right being here! They can express their feelings and I am very sympathetic to anyone who suffers on a journey like this.

I agree with you breeze.  I allowed myself to get too involved just by posting this but its only because i'm not on the bandwagon yet.  From my stand point it sounds like some post are trying to deter people like me instead of inform us.  I learn from the good and the bad.

I completely see your point! I remember SO clearly when I was early in my journey those posts would frustrate me and I would have to block people because I had no choice at the time but to take it personally and (let's be honest) worry that the same thing could or would happen to me.

I guess over time, and through MY OWN fabulous personal success with my band, I now know that those posts absolutely, in no way, shape or form, apply to me and MY cir****tances (thankfully)....so I can take them with a grain of salt and digest them better with confidence in myself and my band.  You'll get there too, just wait...and it is GLORIOUS!!!

Trust me though, I understand your feelings wholeheartedly and was just trying to shed light on the other side of the fence (I have a lot of friends on here that are failed bandsters and know what they have gone through - no fun).

:)  And I'm here to support you too, regardless of the naysayers.

I think it has been pretty calm on this board recently....don't know what drama you might be referring to, but if it is what Lisaizme posted, that was just friendly banter between PumpkinX and myself and wasn't really negative to the person to whom it was directed....Pumpkin just had her band removed after suffering miserably and revised to the sleeve.  She lost almost all her EW and is anti-band, but her post wasn't intended to be perceived as anti band.
As many bandsters know well before they get their band, the % of EWL is between 50-70%, hence the statement, "middle, end, it's all the same..."
If you want to see some drama...

I hope you do well with your band.  I am very pleased with mine and hope to lose another 30-40 lbs over the next year.  Good luck to you...
Steph

I understand where you are coming from  like I told another poster my decision had already been made but when you come to the boards and that is all you see is the bickering back and forth well it gets to you , its only natural.

I had to take a few weeks off from this board before my surgery because of it ,  Surgery is stressful enough especially when you are heavy because things could  happen and then to hear all the fighting all the time well that dont help matters either with the stress level.

I have learned just to ignore them and I try to stay out of the WLS wars sometimes I dont when I'M in a pissy mood sometimes those wars gets the best of me lmao.

You can learn alot from these boards and like I tell all the newbies that come in you personally dont know how you will react to the band.  You could go through your whole life without problems and then again you can have problems. It's a chance you take .

Every WLS out there is a chance there is no perfect surgery out there none !!!  People take a chance on their surgery hoping it will work for them.

I had two choices .  The lap band or do nothing.   I could have said nope not getting the lap band look at the all the problems,   then I could have just sat around in my house at the age of 40 at 350 pounds and probably more and two pack a day smoker where was that going to get me no where  but a damn early grave so I took the chance .

Even if  my band comes out tomorrow I would be grateful for what I have done so far.  I have quit smoking for 8 months now will never go back to it, I have lost almost 60 pounds and the best thing . I know how to eat now that is the most important part of this whole journey right there is learning how to eat and to eat things and be in control :o)

I have my bad days damn kettle corn lol but they are alot better then what they use to be and that is all that matters :o)

I agree, everyone knees to know the good and the bad to everything, learn the pros and cons but there is always a better way to do things.  I can't stand the bandsters that tell them you are going to fail at it go for this WLS instead.  Not everyone has the same journey so you can't tell someone before they started their journey that they are going to fail at it.
While I do feel for those who have suffered greatly with the band, why not ask for support instead of bashing the newbies?  I can't relate to those who have suffered with the band but I can say when they were not feeling well, I know they got a lot of support on this forum.
Oh well, Newbies.... read and soak in what you want to believe in and if ever you need support, we shall provide it to you!

Take care and good luck as you are on your way to your new journey!
Jan

PS... @ Steelerfan, you and that kettle corn!  LOL... you are making me crave some!

all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence.  I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!
