Small favor to ask of everyone in Texas!

I want you to take 2 minutes out of your day to call the Governor!

Here is why:

Did you know that most bake sales are illegal? Did you know that it is illegal for me to bake a cake and sell it to a friend?

Currently, it is illegal to sell food that was not made in a commercial kitchen, no matter how innocuous the food might be!

WE ARE TRYING TO CHANGE THIS  IN TEXAS AND WE ARE SO CLOSE!

We've managed to get a bill through the house (passed with a wide margin) and through the senate (unanimous!) that contains an amendment that would let people register their home kitchen as a cottage food industry and legally sell baked goods to the general public! Other states have similar laws and they work quite well!

Currently the bill is sitting in the Governor's office and he has until June 19th to sign it. He's hemming and hawing about it, so this bill needs support! It's taken us YEARS to get this far, and a veto would set us back another 2 years!

It takes about 1 minute to call and give your name and voice your support for SB 81! So call 1-800-252-9600 or 512-463-2000 if you think consenting adults should be able to buy pastry products from whomever they choose!

If you do call, please post a reply to this saying that you did, so I have a good idea of whether this had any effect!

Kudos to you exercising your right to petition your government officials directly!

I believe it is great when citizens reach out to elected officials in support of the causes and principles that are important to them. It is the hallmark of our democratic society and it is a privilege for which I am extemely grateful. 

While I have already spoken to Rick Perry's office once today, I was calling to register my complete and utter disgust at his decision to collaborate with a known hate group for his so-called "Day of Prayer" in Houston later this summer.

I called and emailed today and I plan to do so every day through August 6th.  Despite his horrendous track record, looks like we are both advocating vigourously to get Rick Perry to respect what "consenting adults should be able" to do in the State of Texas.  I wish you the all the best of luck and I hope that your willingness to participate in this great democratic process is a success.
