Removal of eroded band video.

Perhaps someone can post a video of the repair of an intestinal obstruction - which can happen as a result of any surgery that cuts or alters the intestines. Or a video of a repair of a suture line failure if the stomach? Or a video of someone taking iron infusions because they have lost their ability to properly absorb nutrients? Oh, but we don't talk about those things, because other surgeries are totally safe and utterly free of risks and side effects.

I'd say post them if you got them.

However, they do more good on the boards that they relate to.  There was a lady on the VSG board that had a MAJOR suture line failure (well, sort of) that left her on a feeding tube for months and I WANTED to know about that possibility going in.  Nobody knocked her for talking about it openly, in fact everyone welcomed her talking about it and were supportive. In fact, when I had my problems with my band prolapse there were quite a number or people on this board who were very supportive and understanding about my issues without immediately blaming ME over the band.

That's pretty much my point. There's this bizarre thing that happens here where people who had other types of surgery feel like they must come to the lap band board to educate those with a band about the band. It confuses me that they somehow think that people who have a band can't handle the education of those interested in a band. It isn't as though we who have a band all pretend it's all sunshine and lollipops all the time, we are honest about the risks, the necessary behavior changes, and the challenges.

I love reading your posts!

But on another note, I don't mind posts that are made regarding band problems, etc as they are something that can happen.  THE APPROACH THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE MAKE ME JUST NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR OPINION WHAT SO EVER.

Pumpkin did have the band... in fact she had two and both failied.  I also had the band.  That's why I still post here.  There are a lot of people on here who are previously banded and they come to the Lap-Band board so that their story is also heard.  I struggled after having the band removed if I should come in here and still add my two cents.  I decided I was still going to because I would have wanted to read of the complications people have had before getting the Lap-Band. I could choose to just never come back and never talk about my band at all and just focus on my VSG, but I feel like it is important for people of ALL band experiences to come here and share.

I still get a TRUE feeling of fear when I see someone excited about getting the band. In fact when the sixteen year old girl posted in here that she was getting the band I almost literally SAT ON MY HANDS and typed nothing so that I wouldn't put fear into head before surgery even though I wanted to tell her to not do it.  I want them to know what they CAN face.  I also want them to know that it CAN be fine like the cases of Naomi and Bette.

Also, on what you said above about Lap-Banders being honest about the risks, I have to agree that most are.  There are only a few people, less than a hand full, that want to stick their head in the ground and never lay the blame on the procedure.  I had a lot of hope for my band and I followed "The Rules" with my doctors supervision but still had complications. My body reacted to the band and over time it started restricting more and more without a fill. I just think that someone who hasn't experienced that may not be able to relay that, so that is why it is important for people who have had failed bands and other band problems to contribute.

Now, someone who hasn't ever had the band coming in and talking about it is all static noise to me. You won't see me bashing the RNY or DS because I can't share my experiences on it at all.

As far as the original video goes, I think it is good that it was posted.  When I was researching the VSG I actually went looking for stuff like this.  I wanted to see what the worst case scenarios were.

I think it is good for people who have had complications to come here and be honest about their experiences. There are a few though who do it in such an unproductive way that all they do is breed hostility that ends up scaring away people who come here for support and information. On either side of the spectrum, it is the extremists that end up making things unpleasant for everyone else. The goal of giving people information on the risks of a procedure should not be to attempt to convince them that something else is guaranteed to be better, but to provide information that helps them confidently come to their own conclusions.
