All I can say is I firmly believe if you have more than 75-100 lbs. to lose you should have a different surgery than the band. There are a few who have succedded but far more who have failed.

If the band were actually safer than the other surgeries, I may have considered it. But because I saw stats on eroding bands, bands that slip, problems with ports, and the number of band patients that ultimately have to undergo one or more additional surgeries, I decided it was not actually safer.

If you just want the band to help you lose 50 lbs, and you will do the rest on your own, why have WLS at all? You deserve to have have a tool that will help you for the rest of your life, not just for a couple months while you lose 50 lbs.

Obviously, this is a very individualized decision, and you should only have a surgery you are comfortable with, but make sure you spend A LOT of time researching your options. Check out all of the forums for a couple weeks so you get a realistic idea of life after each of the WLS options.

Good luck, and you sound very determined, so I'm sure you will be successful at what ever you choose.
