Is Lap-Band a good option
I wouldn't wish the band on my worst enemy, besides the fact that it often doesn't work it also can cause serious health problems take a look at the failed lap band forum. I haven't had serious issues but have had to have mine emptied because it keeps tightening with no fills and for no reason. So I will keep going but I've not lost much weight. Twenty pounds in three years is hardly worth the effort. Myself I wish I'd gone for the sleeve, it works so much better without the hassles of the band. Please investigate all the surgeries before making a final choice!
The average loss with a band is 1 or 2 lbs a week. This can equate to 50 to 100 lbs a year. I lost 100lbs in my first 7 months.. eating real food.
There are quite a few who have lost all their excess weight with a band, but it requires work. I've lost most of my excess weight, and only have a little more to go. So I'd guess I'd have to say that I'm the example that would prove your doctor to be mistaken.
I agree with whoever suggested that perhaps your doctor isn't as comfortable with working with bands. Support after banding is very important. If a band (after you do your research) is really what you want, find a surgeon with a good after care program. Remember, your surgeon doesn't have to live in your body afterward.. you do.

I had a band for over 3 years.
With 100 to lose, you could probably do it. I wouldn't recommend a band to anyone with over 80 so by my recommendation standards, 100 is pushing it, but it's doable.
As far as my opinion is concerned, the lap band turned out the most invasive surgery possible. Although I *did* lose 120 while it was in me, I wound up having two revision surgeries after the band. Forget about worrying if it's invasive or not. They're cutting you open; Period.
As far as wondering about results; look at the tickers of the participants on this board. Very few have made goal, or lost some serious pounds. The average results for the band are like 50 the first year and less the second, even less the third, and so on. Scope out tickers of the bandsters on this board to get a good idea of what to expect.
Best of luck to you!!

The previous poster is right. Look at people's tickers to see how much they lost and then look at the surgery dates. You don't really want to be that thin so you may acheive it with a band but it seems to be unlikely based on others' achievements. The next equivalent to the Band is the Sleeve. Really consider the Sleeve if you don't want RNY. I started out 20 lbs heavier than you and want to end up close to 120 so I went straight for RNY to give myself the best change of getting to goal. If I had less to lose I would have had the Sleeve. The Band was never a consideration after doing my research. I wish you good luck with the surgery.
