post op questions

I am just shy of being a week post op.  I am healing very well and in general feeling great, but I do have a few questions. I was wondering how long you had to wait before you could drive after your surgery?   I have a 26 lbs toddler, how long did you have to wait before you could handle that amount of weight to pick up?
Thanks,
Michele

Everyone's doctor is different.  Mine has post-op instructions linked on the website for the practice.  And I was given a copy to take home.  You should call your doctor's office to ask about picking up your toddler.  I could tell you what my doctor says, but it might not be appropriate for your situation.  :)

In general you can drive after most surgeries when you've been off of narcotic pain meds for at least 24 hours.

I don't mean to be a PITA or sound mean, I'm just not comfy advising on the lifting when I don't know the details of your surgery.  :)  Sorry.

No worries... you are not a PITA (I thought I was the only one who used that!), that is being responsible. Perhaps I should have put more info in my post. I really wanted to compare to my Dr.'s requirements, which are to not drive for two weeks (!!) and to not lift anything (or anyone) of more than 10 lbs for a month.

I was allowed to drive as soon as my pain meds from the hospital wore off which was 24 hrs after surgery if I felt like it .  If I took the pain meds from the  hospital then I was not allowed to drive.

I drove abotu three days later after my surgery :o)

As far as lifting I was allowed to go back to bowling at my six week check up as long as I felt comfortable. If I felt any pain or anything I was to stop.

I was allowed back to full exercise at six weeks also :o)

I was told that I could drive a few days later if off pain meds and nothing over 10 pounds for 6 weeks.
