Consultation with Trainer - Lap-Band Questions to Ask?
Hi - a question for those who have worked with trainers since having the Lap-Band.
I am interviewing trainers and the one that I am leaning towards has worked with clients that have had the gastric bypass but has never worked with a client that had the Lap-Band.
Are there specific questions or concerns that I need to address with him during my consultation? When I asked my doctor's office, I got this - "well, I've heard that there are exercises that have caused ports to flip in a small number of patients". Again, not specific, so there's limited action that I take based on that feedback.
I am only 5 weeks post-op (which he knows), so I really want to make sure that I'm not doing exercises that may trigger an issue since I have had an absolutely wonderful experience with my band so far.
Appreciate any suggestions~!
I dont know of any questions to ask the trainer, but you need to ask your surgeon if youre cleared for that type of exercise.
I'm talking "personal trainer exercise"...
My surgeon cleared me to walk on the treadmill at 2 weeks out. But - I wasnt allowed to have anything more strenuous until 8 weeks post op. I know all surgeons are different, just make sure you ask before you jump into it.
Whomever you decide to hire, they're going to work your body out! Which is fantastic!! HIring a personal trainer was the best $700.00 I spent on myself.
Good luck!

Beyond that, I would make sure that the trainer knows where your port is -- and plans your exercise to be gentle with that area.
I would also avoid stretching/reaching hard for a few months.

many gyms have metrics that they must track w/each client & they had a choice to work with me - my way or i'd find someone who could.
the funny thing is i've taught my trainer more about nutrition than he could ever have taught me.....
btw - i waited a good 3 months before heavy weight training. good luck.
Honestly, I never thought about weight training effecting the port or my band in general. It's been almost a year and I've been fine.
