arent they?? LOL

I've never taken any supplements, vitamins, etc.  Hell - I dont even do protein shakes.  I'd rather EAT my nutrients.

Anyway - I had to have an xray done on my lumbar region yesterday (took a nasty spill down a flight of stairs over the weekend)  anyway... the xray came back all good.. just a severe bruise, no fracture...    however - my Dr says I have mild degenerative disc disease and minimal osteoarthritis, AND I have to take 2 weeks off from the gym. BOOOOO

UGH!!!  I'm 29 dammit!!!!

apparently the disc disease is attributed to when I broke my tailbone 12 years ago, and the osteoarthritis runs in my family.

YAY me!!

Dr says to "lift weights" and "drink milk"   I hate milk.  BLECH no thanks...   the lifting weights part I have down...  I lift full body weights 3 times a week, but the calcium part is a problem.

So - this is where you guys come in...    What calcium supplements do you take??

My bariatric doc wants his patients to take Calcium Citrate.   Usual amount is 1500mg in 3 divided doses.

Sometimes I use Celebrate chewables, sometimes I take Bariatric Advantage chewables, sometimes I use Citracal Petites, currently I'm using Walgreens store brand of Citracal Petites.

I also take Centrum Chewable multi vitamins, & 5000 iu of D3 (and some other stuff specific for my needs).

Never too early to start getting your calcium.  :)

And try really hard not to take your calcium within 2 hours of taking iron, for example a multi with Iron.

Since you don't like milk, and don't want to drink your calories, (I am the same way about drinking calories) how about cheese? I eat low fat cheese sticks- 2 just about everyday as a snack. Do you eat spinach or broccoli? I believe they are both sources of calcium.

I eat cheese at almost every meal...   Its not enough apparently.

I love both spinach and broccoli, however again.... I dont eat enough of it to add up to the amount of calcium that I should have daily.

I had always ate a lot of dairy and I have calcium def and Vit D Deficiency had even before surgery. I take Celebrate Chewable calcium but the citrate petites are easy to get down also. And I don't know for sure you might have to google but there is something about oxalates bind calcium in certain green veggies not really sure about that though.

I have degenerative disc disease all up and down my spine and osteoarthritis. You are 29, well your never too young. Im 38 and have been having these problems since I was 20yrs old. I totally understand how you FEEL... I always asked if it was the wt and was told NO. Well BOTH are hereditary. I don't like milk either. You don't have to drink milk. Some know due to the surgery I take Caltrate 600 calcuim with vitamin D chewables. I don't know if it will help me, but I know I have to take them. I have never been one to take vitamins either. So chew up...lol!!
Good Luck...

It's close to impossible to get the required amount of necessary micronutrients in each day through food alone.  Vitamins are necessary, especially at our age (I'm only two years older than you - we don't get the free ticket anymore...)

Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D is what you need.  The vitamin D assists your body with the absorption of the calcium.  Citrical Petites are very small and easy to swallow.
