Is it true that were not supposed to eat solids on the day of a fill? This is my 1st fill so I'm new to this.

I eat normally until about 2 hours before the fill -- then I do full liquids for the remainder of the day.  The day after, I am allowed to do soft/mushie foods.

Lots of people have to do liquids for a few days following a fill --- you need to ask your office what they suggest.

I usually have my fills between 1:30 and 2pm --- so, I eat my normal breakfast, and a light lunch.
Then, I drink some water on my way to the doctor's office.

I drink water after I leave his office -- then I go and buy my favorite Chicken Tortillia Soup from a local Mexican restaurant.  That night, I drink the soup (reserving the solid parts for the next day).

I just had my 1st fill last Saturday and I was told liquids for 2 days, then soft for 2 days then back to regular after that. Apparently each Dr has a different idea Just make sure and ask yours. Good luck.

My surgeon's office is divided on this. The PA's that also do fills do the strict liquids for 2 days and then soft foods and then regular foods plan. My surgeon says anything as tolerated but be careful! Obviously I would NOT go out and eat steak or something really dense or chewy. I've done yogurts and thicker soups after a fill with no problems. The first few fills I didn't notice much difference in tightness of the band unless I took a larger bite and didn't chew well. But, the closer I got to being adjusted  to the right level of tightness for me the more I noticed the difference after each fill.

Good luck!

I have always eaten normally before a fill. My doc. says liquids for 24 hours than back to solid food. As already been said, doctors seem to suggest different things.

My surgeon, who is on the lapbad standards committee, has always held to one meal liquids, one meal mushies, third meal solid.
Obviously, there are different standards out there.

They should advise you at the appointment, but if they don't, I'd at the very least do liquids the day of fill and advance slowly as tolerated.

My new fill doc (an internist instead of a bariatric surgeon) says no solid food for 4 hours before the fill, but I can have as much liquids as I want. My appt was at 4pm, I had lunch about noon and by 4pm, I was getting hungry.  I bought a low-fat chocolate milk and had it after my fill.  :)  My doc is an hour drive from my home, so I can't just go home and have whatever ....  have to plan ahead.

Thank you to everyone who has answered! I did call my surgeons office this morning and they want straight liquids today for the day of the fill. I'll make sure to ask on what to do after this afternoon. Everyone's Doctors seem to have different answers! Thanks again!
