Why does Gardening Exhaust Me?

I've been working out at the Y pool for a while now, so I decided to tackle some weeds in the garden yesterday.
After 2 hours of weeding, I was totally exhausted. I felt like I had run a marathon!
Why is gardening so much more tiring than water aerobics??

Wonder if it burns more calories....

Thanks!

Cheers....

Bless your heart! My guess is that weeeding uses muscles that swimming doesn't. And it's dirty, sweaty work, and a few days after it's done, it's time to start over again. Kind of like housework.

Jean:
Thanks for the encouragement.
We went to Gillette Stadium today to watch lacrosse, and there were so many stairs and such a long walk to and from the parking lot, I'm beat again today. Hope it shows on the scale!!

you are exhausted because gardening is exercise....

Yep, two straight hours of it!
Let's hope for results both in the garden and on the scale!!
Thanks,

Congrats on the gardening!  I do as little as possible.  Cause here in south eastern Arkansas, it get's soooo hot and humid when the most gardening work is needed.  Heat, humidity, and I don't do well together.  So I admire you for your gardening efforts.

We have so many weeds right now, I almost have to close my eyes walking up the path to my front door!
All that rain grew the weeds!

I can't wait to get started on my backyard, it's a hot mess!  New house, untamed wildness out there.  Let's hope I can make it!!!

I love gardening and it is hard to get into the swing of it every spring. The first few times I put some serious work in the gardens I am wiped out!

Good job on the gardening Mary!

Last week I had to transplant a lot of "full sun" perennials that were in shade because of maturing trees.  They needed to be moved or they would die out in the next few years.  There's a lot bending and squatting and hard work doing that.  It's a good workout for sure!
