Post op first week: Can I do it alone?

I am looking forward to have the Lap Band surgery in June.  I have no family in this country. So, my concern is dealing with the post op by myself.  My weight is 210 pounds and my height is 5' 3''.  My general health is good. I don't need to climb stairs to get home. I have a friend who can drive me back and forth for the surgery and take me to the first follow up.  Besides that I am on my own. Please give me some feedback.

Hi and congrat's on you upcoming surgery.  I too live alone and I did fine after surgery.  the first couple of days I did a lot of sleeping.  My only advise is to be prepared.  Have your protien drinks available for you and plan what you will need at home.  My surgery was on a Monday and I drove by Thursday. Just have what you need for your protien/liquid diet.  You'll do great

Thank you so much for your advise.  How long did it take you to get back to work?

I went out of town for my surgery  and did it on my own. I also had hernia repair and it was more complicated and Band over Bybass. Need someone with you the first night as the drugs wear off but that is just protocol. If your friend can;t stay there are home care services you could hire just for the first night..

WOW!  You are brave!  The doctor mentioned that I could stay at an "post surgery hotel".  My mother is asking me to wait until September when she comes to visit me. I am very impulsive and I don't want to wait. May be I should

Sounds like u are in a good space. Do you have any friends that could stop by and visit with you? Maybe a co-worker? neighbor? You can do this alone but it is always better with some support. Good luck!

Thanks for writing to me.  Now I am less worried about the post op pain and limitations.

Now I am thinking about the emotional support I may need during the first week. Maybe I should wait until September when my mother comes to visit me.  I feel that I can't wait to have the surgery. Should I wait?

You are about where i was, size wise, when i had surgery.  My husband works out of the country, so i understand being alone.  I slept downstairs the first night, but after that, i was pretty mobile and pain free.  I *did* have the pet sitter come once a day and exhaust the dogs for me (i have six) as they don't understand when i can't keep to their usual schedule.

I think you'll be fine, unless you know that you take longer to recover from illness/injury.

Good luck!

I'll be having my surgery in two days. I wish I could share with my family and they'd be supportive, but such is not the case.  I do have my grown daughter here to help me, thankfully. (She owes me, I had to help her with her gallbladder surgery a few years ago.)  Hope all the best for you.  You'll do fine.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.
