hey y'all.....I have had Vit D deficiency since banded June 2010.....is this possibly a reason for my weight loss plateau?? I eat (2) calcium/vit d chews daily.....started using skim milk w/ vit d with my protein.....taking multi vit with vit d.....what more can I do other than stay in the sun ....which btw...I hate....alllll day?? I am 88lbs down.....working out 5-6 days a week, just started back doing weights thinking it was the cause of no weight loss....doing cardio...though maybe not enough.....just trying to get to the 100lbs mark before my year anniversary....still seeing the difference in my clothes.....but not on the scale!!!
I think most everyone in the northern hemisphere has Vit D deficiancy so I doubt that in itself is the problem, It may be that you are just in a minor stall, it happens to everyone sooner or later. Sometimes the body shows a weight loss and sometimes it shows an inches loss and alternates between the two. I'd say a better thing to question is your lean protein intake and fluid intake, are they both up where they should be? You may want to start journaling your food if you aren't already that usually points out where we need to make adjustments. Also make sure you are using calcium citrate not carbonate, it may help the vit D be absorbed better. That's all I can think of right off hand so good luck, I'm sure others will give you more ideas.
Although vitamin D contributes to healthy metabolism function along with mahy other things I would doubt that's the reason for the plateau. I have been severly D defficient for years - I take 4000 iu/day and I have just reached the low end of normal and my weight loss is not impacted. I am 8 months out and down 81 pounds. I exercise a lot like you do - I would say keep up the water intake and and maybe change up what you're eating or the kind of exercise you're doing. Good Luck!
About that vit D deficency. There is controversy over what normal is. It used to be a lower number. It is also thought the blood test might not be that accurate an that people with fat and tans might store the vit d in a way not picked up by the blood test. I choose to be happy with my # although my HMO would love to sell me the vit d supplement. I live in the sunshine state and love milk products. I found it hard to believe I am vit deficient. But that is just me.
