GIving my band a little R&R

So yesterday I got stuck on a pill.. It hurt so bad and left me PBing most of the day with anything I tried to eat.  I had to stay up until 2 am because the watery grits I ate at 6pm were still in there and not allowing me to lay down.

I had a fill a week and a half ago and feel like I finally hit my sweet spot and then this happened yesterday.   I just drank a little coffee and its going down but gurling the whole way.

Is it best to just do liquids all day now?  or should I call the doc for an unfill.  Liquids are going down , just have to take it slow.

It's always wise to pamper your band the day or two after a stuck episode.  If you are concerned, give your doc's office a call.  You are most likely swollen and things need to settle down.  Get your fluids in and see how you feel tomorrow as to whether you feel like advancing to mushies.  Best not to irritate things further.

You should go for an unfill because even saliva is going to irritate your band.

BTW PBing ( productive burping ) should NEVER be considered normal.

A commonly reported occurrence for banded patients is regurgitation of non-acidic swallowed food from the upper pouch, commonly known as Productive Burping (PBing)[citation needed]. Productive Burping is not to be considered normal. The patient should consider eating less, eating more slowly and chewing their food more thoroughly. Occasionally, the narrow passage into the larger, lower part of the stomach might also become blocked by a large portion of unchewed or unsuitable food[19].

I find that after a bad stuck episode, 24-48 hours of liquids allows the swelling to go down.  High humidity, dehydration, etc can cause us to get stuck when otherwise we wouldn't.  My fills take about 10 days to a week to kick in, so not surprised that this happened at this point.  If you can get fluids in, you are fine...give it a rest and try to eat something soft tomorrow, if it goes down, then try solid food...if that doesn't work, you most likely need an unfill...meanwhile, drink lots of water.

Do you cut your pills in half?  I empty capsules into a bite of sf applesauce and follow with 8 oz of water...all my tablets are cut in half or quarters.  I have to take mega-red and I take that with my morning coffee...helps to melt it.

Good luck!  Let us know what happens!

Steph

Steph, I was reading your reply and I had no idea that humidity will effect my band..really???  Why is that???  What the heck happens in the summer?

Humidity makes me retain water (edema) and that is systemic.  We might notice it in our ankles, but it is throughout our body....so if the stomach is "retaining water" it makes sense that our bands can be a bit "tighter" during this time.  The worse stuck episode I have had was in Hawaii, last October...got to the point where I couldn't get liquids down for a couple of hours.  I ate hot soup for every meal for 36 hours and was fine.  I also have to drink more water in a warm climate...

Yeah you are probably just swollen. Take it a day at a time and see how it goes. It is too soon in my opinion to go for an unfill because you are probably just swollen and irritated and when that goes down you would be too loose. Unfills are usually not needed with stuck episodes unless the stuck food just will not go down or your swelling is so bad you cannot get liquids down. Baby your band and you will most likely feel alot better later today or tomorrow.:)

Over a year ago I had a bad stuck incident that left me feeling too tight.  I tried going on all liquids for a few days but it didn't get better.  In fact things were getting worse.  After 5 days I went in for a slight .2 unfill and I felt perfect after that.  It was like day and night.  If that ever happened to me again I wouldn't wait I would just go in right away.  I was so miserable for 5 days and for nothing.

OcMomma,

Didnt you in another post that Renee started that you do this quite a bit and you even PB on yogurt ?  That should never ever happen . yogurt is a liquid .

I think from the way you talked about getting stuck all the time you are to full and need some taken out .

Losing weight is just not worth living like that if you are PB'ing all the time , but that is just me . I wouldnt live that way.
