My surgery is scheduled for Thursday!  I can't believe it's here.  It seemed so far away when i had my first appt. with the doc in January.

Anyway, now that i'm doing the preop my mother, friend are saying, hey if you can do this why get the band...you're able to follow this "diet."  My husband is saying are you SURE you know what a commitment this is?   I know they are just concerned but hey!!  I'm starting to get scared too!  Thinking wow this is forever!  Is it too extreme?  Then I think back on all the years of struggle and KNOW i have to do this!

Thanks for listening and letting me rant!

Hang in there & don't forget that you are doing what is best for you & for your health. Do any of those who are questioning you have weight issues? If they don't, they just do not understand. If they do, they may be struggling with their own insecurities and fear the changes that will come as you lose weight.

You will always find support here at the OH forum!

Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much JJ.  You're right they don't have weight issues so I don't think they have any idea what the struggle is like.  Thanks again

It is normal to be anxious before the lap band! I was fine up until the IV was in, and then I fell apart! The surgeon came in and said he would be concerned if I was not nervous. You will be so surprised at how fast the surgery goes and your new life begins. Good luck : )

It's a tough situation when others don't understand your need for this surgery.  I could stick to a diet without a problem. I often lost weight because I was determined at that time for whatever reason. BUT every time I'd gain it back plus more!  I've had my LapBand since January 2008 and I haven't gained once.  I have lost for months at a time, but I've never gained.  I know I will struggle the rest of my life and I will have to be diligent to not abuse my tool - but I'm willing to do it! I know the LapBand is the most difficult of all WLS, but for me it's worked and I am a totally new woman1

I was a pro at losing weight, but could never maintain the loss and I was even better at gaining it all back and more!

Once you get to a good restriction level, it really helps with the hunger!  It takes hard work and lots of exercise too!  But it's so worth it!

Good luck to you on your journey to better health!

Do not fret... We all go through our times like this ....
And getting through the preop diet is not hard... Maintaining that for life is the hard part...
The band can help you as you loose and help you maintain the los.. That is the difference

OMG! I could've written that post in November. My husband felt the exact same way. However, now that I am down 70 pounds, and HAPPY, he concedes that it was the right thing to do. No regrets! I did tell him one thing before my surgery - four words were absolutely off limits - "I TOLD YOU SO" - I made it clear, no matter what happened, he was not to mention that phrase! He never has! lol

The band will help you KEEP IT OFF.  Most of us were able to lose, but unable to maintain...
