I have an erosion

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have an erosion.  I just found out yesterday but I don't know when they will remove the band. It's supposed to be soon.  At my best, I had lost 160 lbs but since filing for divorce, I've gained 80.  I'm back on the downward path--let's just hope this doesn't derail me.

I'm sorry to hear about this.  Glad they found it before it caused you serious trouble.  I know of a bandster who ended up getting a sleeve after their erosion healed.

Best wishes for good health and continued loss.  :)

So sorry to hear, I had a prolapse in my band and did not even know it.  How did you know your band erroded?  Were you in a lot of pain?  If anything else goes wrong with my band I will try to have a sleeve done.

I didn't have any symptoms except for the weight gain and I just thought it was from the stress of the divorce. The surgeon became concerned and ordered an upper GI and then a scope. They found conclusive evidence that 1/4 of my band is in my stomach via the scope, yesterday.

I am so sorry that this happened. How long will it be before you head into surgery ?

I haven't been given any specific date; they just said soon. I'm in a limbo, of sorts.

My surgeon said that insurance would probably pay for a different type of surgery.   By gaining weight without restriction it proves to them that we need another option.  That is why I have been researching the gastric sleeve because it is a less evasive surgery, your body reacts to nutrient absorption the same as the band.  I will keep you in my prayers and keep your chin up, let us know how you are doing, we are all here for you. Remember when you choose to have WLS you are doing it for you and you are the most important person in your life don't let someone else ruin it for you!  When one door closes another opens

I have changed employers since I had my original surgery so I no longer have bariatric coverage. If I did do something else, I would get the sleeve but as of this moment, it doesn't look promising.

So sorry to hear that.  From what I remember my surgeon saying, if it erodes they cannot replace it.  Is that right?  Will you be left with no band?  If that is the case please don't give up.  You have done so well!  Therapy to help you deal with stress may be in order.  Divorce is a tough thing for sure.  Excersise will also help relieve stress as well as burn calories.  Best wishes!

The surgeon told me I would not be eligible for a band replacement even if I had the insurance coverage so, unfortunately, I will be left sans band.  I lost a good chunk of weight by jus****ching my calories and exercising feverishly and have begun to return to said form. I will miss my band but I will move on.

Thank you everyone for the support. :-)
