770 Cals for Salmon at 99 Restaurant!! Shock!
Oh man I know how some of those meals are too...TINY!!! I decided not to go out much (only about once every 2 or 3 weeks now, which sucks because I love to dine with friends and miss it) because I have no idea how they are *really* prepared behind the scenes, you know? They say "grilled," but forget to mention it was marinated in butter, oil, salt, etc. and slatherer with more butter for flavor while cooking the darn things on the grill! Those hidden ingredients are what kills it, huh? I totally understand where you're coming from! :)

Mary --- I read the book "The End of Overeating" and it changed my life.
(I actually listened to it on audio) ---- he talks about how restaurants and food companies add salt/sugar and fat to everything to layer on flavor and make it more palatable to us.
He talks about how most chain restaurants get all of their food frozen and that so-called plain chicken breasts and fish fillets are injected with sodium/sugar blends to make them entice us to eat more.
Even if you ask to have your portion prepared 'dry' you are getting the salt/sugar that has been added - and if you don't ask for it that way, they add oil or butter when they cook it.
It has made me think about 'engineered food' alot --- every time I am in the grocery store and i see that there is a new 'flavor' of chips or Wheat Thins, I remind myself that it is the food company trying to keep me addicted to that stuff ---- the layering of salt/sugar and fat that makes my brain want more and more and more of it.
Thinking of them as greedy 'pushers' helps me not buy them -- LOL
Definitely best to eat more at home where we have much more control over what goes into our food.

Kathy, that book sounds awesome. I'd love to get a copy, especially with the tapes!
I agree totally.
One thing I am more conscious of is eating at places that are local, not chains, and that make their own food from scratch.
We have several good places like this, but none on my way home from work, when I would normally need to grab a quick bite.
So, when I'm in a hurry now, after that salmon experience, is to just take a few extra snacks and just wait until I get home for a home cooked meal.
On weekends, we go to our local places, and usually end up taking home half of the food anyway!
But these places cook food to order from fresh ingredients, and what you see is what you get.....
We're just not going to go out as much, it's absolutely not worth it!!!
Cheers everyone!!!
