Just curious how many of you have had their band slip.....and how are you now?  Mine has slipped, but is back in position... I'm just really worried about the future...  Please share your stories!

Once mine prolapsed I wanted it OUT!  It was so miserable living with my slipped band.  I was waking up choking on acid every 20 minutes or so. My band just mysteriously kept getting tighter and tighter, even though it was completely unfilled.

I update my blog here on OH, weekly, and I have certainly documented everything there......LOL
To make a long story short......I got diagnosed with a slip in January 2010.  I was mostly unfilled, waiting for surgery.  During that period, I was also under a lot of stress (all of 2009 and 2010 basically) and I ate since my band wasn't restricting me.  So, I gained some before my surgery in March of 2010 to reposition my band.

After my surgery, my surgeon took my fills very slow.  Understandable.  I followed his post op orders to a tee.  Once released to regular foods, I went to bad regular foods.  I continued to gain weight.  I ended up regaining a total of 40 lbs and I HAD been almost to goal.   I was so angry with myself, but I was also going through so much stress, that I couldn't concentrate on me.  It took a full 8 months and 4 or 5 fills to get to get to a good restriction level.  I have had some trouble getting my mojo back and staying on the bandwagon, but on the whole I am doing pretty good.

I have turned to lifting weights and working out, which is helping me immensley.  My band is in good working order, which I don't think it really ever was before.  My initial surgeon was a quack and did a bad job of placing my band.  I could hardly ever have restriction before without being TOO restricted.  I think I have a good balance now.  To get to goal, it will just be up to me to do MY part!

the problem w/a slip - your likely for it to happen again.    not a given - but likely.

Hi Dena, My band slipped in 2003. Once it was fixed I have had no problems. My slip was pretty severe. I couldn't swallow my spit and it was painful. I had to start from scratch and my tolerances changed. I would still do it again. Mona

Not only did my band slip and need to be replaced, but my daughters band slipped as well and needed to be replaced. Replacing our bands was the stupidest thing we ever did. Although mine was done as an emergency because I was obstructed. I was already scheduled to have a revision, but was still in the research phase of deciding which surgery to revise to.

Because of the obstruction and the immense pain I was in, I had my surgeon revise me back to the band. I'm waiting for approval to see my surgeon so I can get this 2ND band out. My daughter has recently had her second band removed.

If there comes a time when your band needs to be removed. You really would not want to revise back to the band due to the fact that your surgeon would need to place the band higher up your stomach due to all the scar tissue. This in turn will cause you even greater pain.

Restriction is much harder to accomplish in a wrongly placed band.
