Surgery to remove skin.

I am still in the process of being evaluated, having my surgery approved, and things like that. I have heard many things about loose skin, sagging skin, and things like that after weight loss surgery. People make it sound awful. I was just wondering how many people ended up having surgery to remove the loose skin. I've heard that the skin can slowly go back to normal, but I wasn't sure how likely that was to happen. Just thought I would get the opinion of people who have already had weight loss surgery.

There are many factors to consider.

Age, how severe is the obesity, how long was the person obese, genetics, did the person EVER smoke, etc.

I'm currently on the fence about having plastics to remove excess skin.  If I were in my 20's or 30's, I'd probably do it without much of a second thought.  But as I am in my 50's, I'm just not sure that I want to go to the expense.   Most of my excess skin can be hidden by clothing and the people I'd be naked in front of, love me for me, not my skin.  :)

Yeah I was just wondering because I have talked about getting weight loss surgery in the past, and people give me all kinds of stories about how bad the sagging skin is. But when I look at all the before & after pictures of people on here they look amazing. . . So I wasn't sure if they had surgery to remove excess skin or not. I would say that regardless of whether I have loose skin or not I am still going to have the surgery. It was just something I had been wondering.

If you have a fold of skin that has gone over on your stomach grama bye bye arms, skin hanging down your thighs it's not going back. Exercise and slow weight loss can help it not get worse but the body is just not a rubber band. If ur in the need to lose hundred plus pounds club your going to have extra skin. only u can know if u can live with it.

I was just talking to someone about that tonight at work.  She asked what was worse, having the fat or the excess skin.  After losing a lot, like I have - the excess skin is pretty bad, BUT I'd take the skin any day than the fat.  Believe me!  The skin can be taken care of - but the fat is there and doesn't change!

I'll be having my second round of plastics in one week from Tuesday!  I'm in my mid 40's and can't imagine living the rest of my life this way.  I loved my last tummy tuck and arm lift!  I have beautiful arms, I never thought I'd ever have again!

It's worth the expense and the pain.  I'm self pay, so I know about expense!

Any way a person loses weight, they will have excess skin if they were obese.  The amount of it depends on your genes.

In the mean time, I have worn some great garments that make me look a lot better!

I will have about 150 off.  I've seen my plastic surgeon.  He said that I will have to loose all my weight first.  If not the same thing could happen again.

He was letting me know about the bat wings (the loose skin under your arms).  This can be done as an out patient but the tummy tuck.  I will have to stay because you have to be turned.

I know my surgeon and that makes a big difference.  You must be comfortable with your plastic surgeon.

I'm hopping to have my arms done first and then the rest before the yes is over.  I just about 45 more to go.

I don't know it this has helped or not.    Good Luck  RERE

I lost 107 pounds with the lapband.  I have had 2 surgeries already, a tummytuck/boob job and a face lift.  I am thrilled with the results of both procedures.  I am 42 and couldn't imagine not taking care of the excess skin.  Boy did my boobs and face droop!  I am planning on having my arms done in a few months, and that will be it for me.  It is my opinion that sagging skin doesn't get better by itself.  I don't think how slowly you loose it makes much of a difference either.  I think it's age, any pregancies, weight going up and down, genetics et...

I had brachioplasty (upper arms) and a breast lift last November.

I am 52 years old -- and I have gained/lost weight over about 35 years -- and the skin on my upper arms was not ever going to 'go back to normal'.  My breasts were badly deflated also.

There are so many factors --- age, genetics, race, gender, health ---- as Lisa pointed out.

I was considering a tummy tuck, but have decided that I am finished with reconstructive surgery.

I am wearing a size 6 shorts and small blouse today ----- my upper thighs are pretty ugly, but I keep them covered up.

For me personally, the risk of another surgery, (and the financial price) is not worth the potential benefit to me.

I am 9 months post-op and 86 lbs down and when I reach my goal and maintain it for a year I am DEFINATELY having my loose skin removed.  I have always wanted a breat reduction, but now I need breast reconstruction, as I noticed that they like to fall into my armpits when I am lying on my back!  So I will have a breast lift, tummy tuck, upper thigh lift and my arms done.  It will be costly, but I have battled with my weight my whole life and I am ready to enjoy my body being healthy and beautiful!!!

This is a lot to think about. Reading someone is wearing a size 6!!!!! I pray thats me. Congrats to all of you who need the skin removed bc you lost so much.
Unless I just look terrible, I dont think at 41 years old I would have that surgery.
I am not looking to be in a bikinni, or revealing clothes. Just want to feel good and not embarrass my children.
I am a finalist in Dr. David Kim's weight loss surgery give away and I need to win to get this done. My husband's employer excludes WLS from our policy. Please take a minute and vote for me. Thansk so much and good luck everybody!
