You know what a friend said to me!
I had my second fill yesterday (only 1/2 cc) and she knew I was going, so asked me how it went when I saw her last night. I told her doc was very happy with my weightloss and my reports of satiety, etc.... She said, "I can tell you've lost weight, you don't look like you're about to pop anymore." As I stood there in shock, she went on to say that she thought I "...was a beautiful woman but that I had just looked so uncomfortable and full of food."
And btw, this is from a woman who is the same weight/size I was when I started this journey...25lbs ago.
I get that I am overweight...but man I thought it was one of the worst backhanded "compliments" I have ever gotten!

so I guess she is just saying what she is think about herself. I would slip her your surgeons card and say "here is you start to get uncomfortable too..." hey, slap her back! apparently she gave you a good wack!
trust me, some evil claws come out when it comes to jealously.
Jan
all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence. I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!
Is she a very good friend? She might have thought she was being helpful...
Some people are comfortable with their weight, others are not.. maybe she feels comfortable where she is, but could tell you were not...
If it were me, I would not respond in kind because I do not think she was being mean..I think it sounded a little odd (the comment about popping made me think of the bluberry girl in Willy Wonka) but I think she was trying to say that she noticed YOU were feeling more comfortable with yourself...
That is my opinion

Some people are rude, and some people just can't use words to express what they are thinking without it coming out wrong. I have a friend that is about 100 pounds heavier than i was at my max, who will chide me on my food choices while eating half a box of chocolates. She is trying to be supportive, i believe she just doesn't quite realize how it comes across.
Don't be negative back, just look at the positive side and keep up the good work!

I didn't say anything back...I was so shocked (and hurt) that I couldn't even tell her she hurt my feelings...I just let it pass. In this friend's case, I think she really is clueless and has no idea how her words really sounded (although there might be a smidge of jealousy in there too). Nothing will derail me...but it's going to take a while for the words she used to stop ringing in my ears.
Here is an old Buddhist trick. When we point a finger at others, if u look , a lot more fingers are pointing at ourselves on that hand both literally and figuratively. People generally dislike, fear, hate what they see in others because they hate it in themselves. Only way to counter fear, hate is to counter it with love. That will feel better then the initial reaction to lash back.
