Hi ! Your issues for considering he band are much like mine were. I did not want nutritional deficiancies also did not want anything removed or re-routed . Quicker recovery time, less loose skin (maybe? lol?hopefully? lol) The Japan thing maybe an issue not sure but they are known to be less obese and healthier so I dunno if bariatric surgeons would be plentiful .
I have had my band a year now and am very happy with it. The fills/unfills are something to consider both time and cost wise as I go see my surgeon about every 4-6 wks.Mine is only about 45 mins away so I am lucky there.
I would suggest talking to your counseler and Dr about your conflicting emotions and let them help you decide what is best. The wt loss is alot slower than RNY and you may or may not lose all of your expected excess weight. At a year out I am at about 55% of my desired overall wt loss and it has slowed but I am due a fill too so that might be why.I am very happy with my choice though and like times like this when I need to kick it up a notch I can since the band is adjustable.
The sleeve is a very new but popular procedure. If the band and aftercare do not appeal to you maybe the sleeve would. It is also a restrictive not a malabsorption procedure. Maybe check that out too.:) Good luck on your journey !

Thanks so much for sharing and the input, psychomom!
I am just getting into the surgical discussions with my therapist and will be having my surgical "class" next month, when I will get to speak with the doctors directly... and I will have to make sure I have a list of questions written down that I want to ask them when I see them... otherwise, I will definitely forget or be too intimidated to manage to ask my questions.
I honestly think that I would be interested in the VSG, but it is not offered by my hospital's program/surgeons, and at this point I feel pretty committed to sticking with Geisinger Danville.
Thanks again!

If you've been lurking then you already know how I feel about the band.
