Hello

I've been having a problem with dizziness for about a week now.  It started last Wednesday.

Let me give you my background... I am 39 years old and had WLS 2 years ago.  I have lost 150lbs and have about 45lbs to lose.  I started a vigorous exercise program 8 months ago and have seen great results.  I eat about 1200-1400 calories a day and keep my carbs on the low side, at about 40-50 per day.  I drink lots of water and get plenty of protein.  I also take vitamins.

So now back to my issue.  I get the dizziness around 2pm- 5pm.  Never in the morning or late at night???  At first I thought it was because I wasn't eating enough calories (because of the 90 minutes of exercise I do each day) so I increased my calories to about 1400.  When that didn't help I also added a protein shake after my workout...still didn't work.  My friends were thinking it was maybe low blood pressure or low blood sugar.  Well my friends being helpful decided they would bring in a blood pressure cuff and a blood sugar testing kit.  So the next time the dizzines**** me they were on top of it.  I had my blood pressure checked and blood sugar checked and both are normal.  They checked them several times to make sure.  The next thing I thought was maybe medications I am taking...but everything I am taking I have been on for at least a year or longer...so it can't be that.  Now I am wondering if it could be a vitamin deficiency.  I am eating what I am supposed to and taking a multivitamin but could I still be deficient???  Is there even a vitamin that could cause dizziness when deficient???  Oh and the weird thing is I had no problems with dizziness on the weekend.  So maybe I am doing something at work to cause my dizziness.  It's a mystery to me....

A co-worker of mine has had problems with vertigo and she suggested motion sickness pills.  Which worked perfectly.  So I am taking these pills now and they are helping.  I have an appointment with my PCP next week.  Until then I am just trying to figure out what could cause this all of the sudden....

EDITED TO ADD- I wanted to say I haven't been sick in 6 months and have no sinus issues at all.  I also have had no head trauma or accidents in years.

 Maybe electrolyte imbalance.

I'm glad you're going to the doctor!  As i mentioned before, I still think your carbs may be too low for you.  My nutritionist has me around 95  a day.  When i was on the Atkins diet many years ago, I got vertigo when I reduced my carbs below 20 a day. As soon as I got off the diet, the vertigo disappeared.

even if you drink "lots of water", if you're sweating alot via exercise, you could possibly not be getting enough.  Just a thought to consider.  :)

Hope the doc can figure it out.

I agree with some who mentioned your carbs being low considering your calorie intake.. You need carbs complex, from fruit for veggies.. you don't necessarily need it from bread or rice ..
You just don't need to eat carb at night you want them in the morning or at lunch before the gym and none at night because your heading to bed and can't work them off...

I have low sugar sometimes because of my water pill... my doctor is starting to decrease it.

All of my carbs do come from complex carbs.  I just keep it low.  Do you guys really think it's the low carbs...because I used to eat less carbs than this.  I was at 30-40 but recently increased them due to my workouts.  I don't know maybe I should go to 50-60.  I just don''t want to go so high that I don't lose weight anymore.

Mild dehydration is a leading factor in dizziness -- make sure you are getting enough fluids.

I know that for me, after lunch, I get busy and forget to go back to drinking my water many days.

I am now border-line Low Blood Pressure (was borderline HBP before surgery) and I get dizzy all during the day -- especially when I go from sitting to standing.

Hydration and being more mindful of my movements have helped alot.
I now try to find a visual spot to focus on when I stand up -- and don't move too quickly between sitting/standing.

I drink about 100 oz of water a day.  During my workout I drink about 32 oz in 90 minutes (I sweat a lot).  I don't think hydration is the issue.  although, I wi**** was....that's easy to fix.

I seem to get dizzy a little after lunch.  I do get dizzy when I stand up fast or move my head to the side quickly.

My plood pressure when checked during one of my dizzy spells was something like 110/74.  Which seems fine to me.

Maybe try adding some powerade zero (very similar to gatorade, but no calories) to your fluid intake.  Might be electrolyte imbalance.
