So my surgery is scheduled for this Thursday.  I haven't lost a single pound since my dr visit for surgery in Feb-till now, let's say insurance really dragged their feet.  I am on a liquid diet today and tomorrow.  What are the chances my dr says umm yeah, sorry-not gonna operate.  i weigh 272.  I live 3 1/2 hours away and would not like to make the trek back without the procedure.  Has anyone had this happen??  It would be so demoralizing to drive back home with family in the car and not have had the procedure, that would really put me in a tail spin.

I will be very  honest with you the rules with my doc are if you do not lose the required weight you are suppose to lose before your surgery then he will NOT do the surgery he is very strict about this.

My doctor has cancelled surgeries before he cancelled the lady right before my surgery .

No excuses allowed no weight loss no surgery its for your protection anyways and my doc told me if I cant even follow the rules to lose the required weight for surgery then I probably wouldnt do good after surgery if I couldnt follow rules before hand.

It all depends on your doc. Some docs dont care but there is alot of docs out there that do care .

Were you required to lose a certain amount before surgery?  I did not have a pre-op diet nor was I required to lose a pound.  Thank god!!

Why don't you call tomorrow and get some clarification so you don't make that 3 1/2 hour trip to the hospital.  At least then you'll know what is required of you.

Good luck!!!

My doctor required me to lose the weight I gained between the first time I saw him and the second time.  Plus I was on clear liquids for 48 hours pre-surgery.  Calling is your best bet to get it straight from your surgeon since different doctors have different requirements.

Hi Kathy,

Under "my account" and then the message board tab.  Where you put the ticker.

Gosh I've had that in there since i joined in 2005.  I had to go look to see how I did it!

I wasn't required to lose a certain amount of weight, he said it would help reduce the size of my liver, but, don't worry as i know the diet is restrictive and he won't cancel-but it's all a bit fuzzy right now.  I'm going to call tomorrow, as a precautionary measure.
