Chinese Food
I have not been out to chinese since I was banded almos 3 months ago. Tonight we are getting together with some friends and will be going to chinese. Any ideas on what to get? I normally would order breaded chicken, shrimp etc but not doing that.
I also would like to mention I go in to see my Dr tomorrow so don't want anything that will make me retain LOL....asking too much, he he he?

Any type of Chinese bloats me up, I think most of it has a lot of sodium (well the things I like do hehe)........if I where meeting with my doc the next day I personally wouldn't eat it, I'd get something to go and eat it after my visit LOL.. .......but you can ask and or make sure they don't use msg or soy sauce, maybe some white rice with chicken or shrimp with steam chinese veggies..........sauce on the side so you can keep it off if it seems too salty.

# 1? Ask if there's MSG in their food. If there is, you'll be getting a great deal of sodium no matter what you choose.
#2 - Ask ahead for low sodium soy sauce. A lot of restaurants have it but keep it in the back unless requested.
Everything else? If you don't have much restriction yet & can still eat rice, go with brown rice if that's an option. If not, your basic white rice will do better for you than any of their noodles. Do you like veggies? If so, try something with mixed veggies. See if they'll serve the sauce on the side. Our local place makes me "tofu-fu-young" instead of egg-foo-young... depends on how creative they are at your restaurant. Anything else at Chinese is going to have a lot of salt. As far as other stuff - look for veggies. I'm with you on the breaded chicken. That was my fav. Maybe try the BBQ pork, or beef/brocoli? I don't know if you're into tofu - but it would be your safest protein choice. It basically just takes on the taste of whatever it is cooked with. Oh, egg-foo-young may be good.
Whatever you decide to enjoy tonight? Pound your water for the rest of tonight & tomorrow before you see your doc. The more water you drink, the more you'll flush the saltiness out of your system.
And if you're a lb or so over what you expect in the morning - just go with it. You'll more than make up for it in the coming months. When that happened to me one time, I stopped by the office few days later just to weigh in again. I felt like I had to do it just redeem myself in my own mind. They laughed & were completely cool with it.

Thank you all for your ideas. I'm thinking I will go with Steamed Chicken and veggies. I can only eat 3 to 4oz of food before I'm stuffed so I think I will be ok. I'll box the rest up and take it home for my kids :)
I skipped my 1st fill at 6 weeks and tomorrow is my 12 week check-up to see if I need a fill. I'm hoping I can skip this one too. I'm still able to go 3 to 5 hours without being hungry after only eating 3 to 4oz of protein. I'm not sure on my weight as I don't weigh at home. Although I have weighed once at work since I was at the Dr's last and if that scale is correct I'm down another 6lbs.
We will see what the Doc says tomorrow
