What can I do if my Lapband has been unsuccessful for me? I had my band placed September 25.2009 I lost 50 lbs but now all that weight is back.I was having problems whenever I got fills..It got to the point I wasn't able to eat nor drink anything without vomiting. So the surgeon removed all of the fluid and now I don't have anything in the port and I'm always hungry and lately I can't seem to maintain a strict diet..I feel so guilty and depressed whenever I eat. I also have an Pseudotumor Cerebri (increased fluid within the brain) which causes daily headaches and its difficult for me to exercise..I haven't seen my surgeon since November and they did test and everything appear fine with the band but however I'm not losing NO weight:( please help me guys what can i do? What type of foods should i eat?

Come over to the group in my signature line. There are A LOT of us for whom the band did not work.

As for your question about what types of foods you should eat, I'm sorry I can't help you with that. My band didn't allow me to eat solid foods at all, so I can't speak from experience.

I hope you'll get some answers here and please come over and join the Failed Band Group if you're interested.

Take care,
Nicci

I'm so sorry you're expereincing this.  Just know you are not the only one that struggles with the band.  I know you said your dr tested your band, but did he offer any solution for you?

Ok.  I'm gonna offer a little tough love here, but if you are still having problems, don't wait for your doctor to call you and encourage you to come in.  Far too many patients get lost in the shuffle.  You have to advocate for yourself.  Make an appt, and once you're there in front of the dr ask him what the next step is as the fills and unfills are getting tiresome.

Good luck.

You have to advocate for yourself.

I completely agree!

You should definitely call the surgeon's office and schedule an appointment.  Since you don't have any fluid in your band, that could be part of your problem for not losing any weight.  After they took the fluid out, didn't the surgeon schedule you an appt to check back and see how you are doing and also to let you know when he would again be able to put fluid back in?

There are some people who have to choose between NO saline (or almost NO saline) and little or no restriction AND too much restriction and barfing up even water.  A good number of people have no "happy place."  It's always either too much or two little.  And it MAY have to do with how your body adapts to the presence of the band over time.  So, all can be good for weeks and months and even longer and then, BOOM!, one day you find yourself in a place where there is no GOOD restriction...and that's how it is until you get it removed.

In any group of a hundred people, there are probably 2 or 3 sociopaths.  In a group of a thousand, more like 20-30.  They function very well in "affinity groups," where people have things in common and tend to trust strangers.  I am NOT saying not to trust anyone.  I AM saying that there are probably two dozen sociopaths hanging out here and looking for victims.  Most are NOT serial killers.

I have also been having some problems with my band.  I had my band dec 2008 and I lost 80 lbs in that time.  I didnt lose as much as I wanted but I was ok with it.  I knew that a lot of it was my fault because of my food choices.  I didnt get lapband to get skinny I got it for health reasons.  In Dec 2010 I had to have a hysterectomy.  I was anemic and had very very bad periods.  since my hysterectomy I have gained 20 lbs and I am so upset and scared it wont stop.  I  dont know how to get back on track.  I think I am but then I gain more weight.  I know exactly how your feeling.  Good Luck and I hope you figure it out!

I forgot to mention that In Febuary I went to see my surgeon because I was having issues with eating always getting stuck and it hurt to eat, but I was still gaining weight. So, they took out 1 cc thinking that i wasnt eating the right food because I couldnt and thats why I was gaining. I have 7CC in my band and I feel like I have no restriction.  I can eat way too much food and Im always hungry
