Will I ever walk again???
Hey All,
So I went to the gym this morning for my regular workout. I've been feeling like the workout is getting boring and I look forward to summer when I can go in my pool.
Well, as I was leaving, I started chatting with the owner of the gym and next thing I knew, I was signing up for a personal trainer. Yikes!!! I signed up for sessions twice a week for (wait for it...) 20 weeks. My brain is still whirling !!!!!
I had a trainer when I first joined the gym and he was a young kid - very nice, but his training was definitely not designed for me with my needs in mind. I specified that I'm a bariatric patient, and informed her of my physical issues. The owner assured me that this trainer is perfect for me. God, I hope so...
Do any of the veterans have any advice for me? Have any of you gotten trainers post-op, and if so, is there anything I should ask for? Is there anything I should avoid? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

He texts me if I don't come in and he is a smart ass to boot. I get along with him perfectly.
I hired a trainer to break my plataeu of many years. I let him work me to my limit, which was way beyond what I thought I could do. I gained strength, flexibility, endurance, and confidence beyond my expectations, and I was hardly ever sore. It was exhausting, but well worth the cost. I was more hungry the first week, but after that, it curbed my appetite. Prepare yourself, you will be exhausted, but it will be worth it.
I think you made a great decision to hire a trainer for 2x a week for 20 weeks.
If you have issues with any joints (knees, shoulders, hips) you might want to mention it to them so they will take you up slowly on exercises that stress those areas.
Think about any area you'd like to work on.. waist, hips, arms, etc. and mention that you'd like to improve those areas.
I'm excited for you!!

I've never worked with a trainer. The ones at my gym are perfectly nice, but *I* know what my body is capable of at any give time, and an exercise nazi is really not what I need. Especially when it's 7 in the morning and the caffeine hasn't hit my system yet.
Unless the PT sessions are free, call the gym TODAY and cancel them if you are really not interested.

Thanks everyone. I'm actually glad I signed up. I think in the moment I was in shock that I spent so much money on myself. I'm calling it my birthday present to myself since my b-day is this month. Just used to doing for and spending on others.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes with the trainer. I'm sure it will be a loooong 20 weeks.

I had surgery in December. My oldest son's buddy is a personal trainer, so the day i got clearance from my surgeon, he had me in the gym. I signed up for 48 sessions @ 3 a week, and then got a friend to sign up for some "buddy" sessions. I'm 26 sessions in now, and loving it! Getting some definition and tone, and i feel great. It's the best thing i've done for myself.
There were a few times at the beginning that i also wondered if i'd ever move without pain, but now, if i have to miss a session, i mope around. I was in for a massage today, and was trying to convince my trainer i needed a workout as well. :P He told me just to have the massage and relax, he'll be happy to punish me tomorrow.
