BOB - Band over Bypass - Looking for BOBs
Hi....
So, you're about half way to your goal then? Im only looking to lose between 50-75. If I could just lose what I put back on and keep it off, I'D BE THRILLED. For me, Im looking for restriction, to not be able to eat too much. I've been reading up on everything, i started to attend support groups again and I've started to wein myself off bread and soda. I've also been drinking less wine in prep for the surgery next month. I see my surgeon a week from tomorrow and I have a list of questions a mile long.
Please check in on me and guide me along the way, I know I will need it.

Hi Heather, restriction with the band doesnt work in quite the same way in that (in my opinion) you have to work harder & really control your portion sizes (in accordance with your surgeons guidelunes). From what i have really gathered the band is really more for keeping you feeling satiated longer which helps you to cut down on your meals & snacking. Yes, i am about 1/2 way to my high goal...i may go lower once i reach goal depending on how i feel at that point. You can friend me if you wish and we can def work to help each other as you 'cross over' to the BOB side of things lol. You can gain a lot in general from this site as well!
I am not a snacker. I just eat too much bc I dont feel full anymore. I still have malabsorbtion from the initial RNY as I can see it from bowel movements (gross but true). I also occasionally dump on OJ, fruits, milk w/ ceral and some sweets. I am not much of a sweet eater but I do eat some. I love this site. I diary-ed my initial journey on my profile and survived bc of the support from this site. I hope to rely on it again this time around. I will def friend you, I need anyone and everyone to help me along that way. Thanks again.
Its good u arent a snacker...i am most def. I still dump on (too much) sugar, i can only drink non fat milk, and my pouch still works (i throw up) if i overeat...but with a larger stoma i can eat more...i really have to work to not snack & use my tool properly as i feel blessed that i have this second chance. I do much better at work & i live on s/f popsicles at home!
hi Heather
I am a brand new BOB, banded on March 23rd. I also had my RNY open nine years ago. I was 390 at the time of my RNY and it was a brutal surgery for me. They should never have done a rny open on someone as large as I was. I am not surprised they found your pouch was so large. My lap band surgeon told me that back then when the rny was dome open they did not make the pouch small enough in the first place to sustain long term success. He told me to
Let go of any feelings of failure and that the band can work well if you work it. It does not touch the original surgery and is a safe revision. I also made the decision to band as I don't want major surgery. Only u can know if your ready for this and I am rooting for u. Pm me anytime.
Cheers

Hey Mamdy:
I cannot place all the blame on my surgeon for a stretched pouch. I eat and drink the same time and 3 yrs ago I went back to soda plus I eat past fullness. However, the 2 surgeons I saw for the BOB both used to be in practice with my dtr and said he was "very conservative" back in the day. All my friends from support group, about 6-8, have gained it back, except 1 who did a yr later when he became "less conservative" and started making them "smaller" than normal.
How are you doing?
Was he/she able to do it Lap?
Was it quick?
How was the recovery?

Newbie BOB over here as of 4/26. Had lap RNY on 2003 went from 276 lbs to about 160 lbs. After about 5 years, I regained about 50lbs.
I felt fine after surgery and am following my surgeon's orders and I'm seeing the weight come off.
During my endoscopy I showed small pouch but stoma stretched. My surgeon is located here in NJ about 40 min from NYC.
Congrats to you on your decision and your upcoming surgery date, I wish you all the best of luck, please keep us posted on your happenings.
