BOB - Band over Bypass - Looking for BOBs
Hi. I'll be 9 yrs post-op from Open RNY in August, I'm getting banded on June 23rd. I was 305 pre-RNY, got down to 173 and am now at 246. I considered a full revision but decided against it as it is MAJOR surgery and I am not willing to take those risks.
My ct scan and endoscopy show a HUGE pouch and a fully intact stoma. I am using Dr. Marina Kurian in NYC for the Band. I'd love to hear from anyone who has been banded after bypass.
NOTE: First let me start by saying that if you have not had a BOB, I'm not really interested in hearing why I should not have a band. You are not in my shoes, don't know my condition and don't know me.

We have several BOBsters on this forum, including the super successful Lisa BeeZee. I'll ask her to pop in and give you her thoughts.

P.S. - I like your note at the end of your post. Far be it from me to tell you why you shouldn't have a band! I'm one of those extremely annoying, optimistic and happy bandsters, and it sounds to me like a band is exactly what you need to deal with the big pouch. Good luck!

Looks like you found some good information.
I am a bober had rny in 04 top weight was 346 low weight was 169. Due to stress & transfer addiction i regained to 276. Had the band in dec last year & am currently at 230 looking to get to 195 then go from there. Its not as easy as how the rny works but it will help you to feel full on less food. I am glad i did it or i would have continued to gain. I also did not want major surgery for a revision. My pouch was in tact but my stoma had. stretched so surgeon said the band would be a good option to regain the feeling of fullness on less food. Lisa Beezee as someone else mentioned is a very successful bober & i am sure she will make a contribution to your pist. Good luck on your journey!
Hey Sapphire, looks like we are the opposite, my pouch is huge and my stoma is intact. Few questions, if I may...
How do you consider the band different?
How does it feel?
How was the recovery?
Is it the same "fullness" feeling that we had way back when?
What do you wish you knew?
What do you wish you havd done pre-band to better prepare?
What do you wish was different?
What did you not expect?
Thank you SOOOOOO Much!

Hi...ok will answer as best i can your ???? above...
1 - band is diff in that you dont really get the same 'reminders' for fullness, to make you stop eating, etc you have to work a bit harder on that issue and be more in tune with yourself & your eating habits (strictly my own opinion)
2 - how does it feel? You dont know its there but i do know where the port is placed. I can feel it when i touch the area but it doesnt hurt or cause discomfort.
3 - recovery for me was quick - i had outpatient in at 7:30 home by noon on a thurs and was back to work the following monday. My job is sedentary so no issues there. I was sore in the stomach area for a few days but no major pain and thank god i didnt suffer gas pains!
4 - fullness is not the same...with rny i had to quit or throw up with the band there is no leniency like that...hopefully with my next fill i will have more restriction but to make it work follow your drs rules and measure your portions
5 - i wish i knew how diff it would be in restriction from the rny but would still have done it for the lesser risk involved & doc said since issue was my stoma he felr it would guide me in being & feeling full longer...but there r still head hunger issues to deal with that doesnt go away
6 - how to prepare just read what u can, ask questions, chat with nut be well informed
7 - restriction could be better but again i still can do more fills & hopefully that will help too as i go along. I am at 7cc's in a 10cc band
8 - um about all i can think of but i did not expect the issue of restriction/fullness to be quite so diff...
I hope this has helped you in some way - good luck on your journey pm me any time or with further ??? I will try & answer...
