Night-time pain
I have been awakened during the night, several times since being banded almost a year ago, by pain that starts just above and to the left of my belly button, radiates upward to my left shoulder and neck, out towards my lower right quadrant and to my upper right abdomen. The first time it happened was last September and has happened about every 6 weeks or so since. It is relieved by sitting up, drinking a bit of water and changing my position in bed. I always check my pulse just to make sure that it is even and normal and it is...I don't have any cardiac symptoms so it isn't that.
Could this be a vagus nerve issue?? I am scheduled to see my doctor later this month for my 1 yr post op check up and will run it by him at that time...

Hi Steph M. Im soo sorry you are going thru that. My surgeon did day that some ppl have to have their gallbladder removed 3yrs after having the band. He also said that most ppl have it removed when they gain alot of wt and when the lose alot of wt. It could be the vagus nerve issue. Some ppl have the same symptoms, but just see what your Dr. says. Hope you feel better.
GOOD LUCK!!!

It sounds like referred pain, but if I were you I would go to your local ER stat so a heart attack can be ruled out. Just do it to be on the safe side Steph.
This sounds like gallstones up to the relief you're finding. Early gallstones may be relieved this way.. I don't remember but I had BAD gallstones for almost 6 months before I knew what it was. Gallstones are a very common issue from weight loss. My friend had her gallbladder removed 18 months after being banded, so it's very possible. I would recommend that you go to the PCP and they'll schedule you for an sonogram. It's best to catch it early - I didn't and because I didn't have insurance at the time, went through hell for almost two years before having surgery.
Good luck!

I have read that women report thinking they were having indegestion, but it was a heart attack. If you call your doc's office and tell them, they might bring you in early or tell you to go to the ER. It also sounds like gall bladder too, but it's best to get it checked out ASAP to rule out any heart issues. Cardiac sysmptoms are different in women than men.
Good luck!!

No, ER Punk...I did talk to my doctor on Friday about Thursday night and he wants to see me when I get home tomorrow. Like I said, it isn't cardiac related, no sweating, no anxiety, no weird heart rythyms, tach or brady...I have a blood pressure monitor and my bp was 125/75 in the am.
Since this has happened about 6 or 7 times in 8 months, he does want to check me out and wants me to check with my band doc when I see him later this month for my one year just to rule out vagus nerve irritation or gallbladder issues.
The consistent thing about it is that it:
Only happens at night
Only when I sleep on my left side
Always relieved immediately upon sitting up and then changing positions
The areas of discomfort are always the same and follow exactly the same pattern
I never have any cardiac symptoms that I mentioned above
I never have had this sensation at any other time of the day...
I think it is vagus nerve related, just by the pattern of the pain...
The one off thing that MIGHT be a factor, is that with the exception of one time, it as always happened when I am travelling...mmm
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I was without internet for the weekend...one of the grandkids borrowed my mobile internet device and we couldn't find it...until this morning, under a bed.
We had a wonderful weekend with our son and DIL and welcomed our 19 yr old granddaughter back from her freshman year of college...
