At a stand still

i am at my wit's end with the professionals involved in my journey.  I have my surgeon's office telling me that I need an upper g.i. series and i need to change nutritionists.  On the other hand I have my pcp telling me that she's not giving me a referral for an upper g.i. nor a new nutritionist.  Pcp said that my endoscopy should have been enough and the nutritionist that i have is just fine.  I'm very frustrated because this is delaying my process. I am scared that eventually I will get completely discouraged and not want to go through this process anymore.  Did anyone have to get both an endoscopy and an upper g.i. series during thier preop phase?

gosh Im sorry you are going through all this .  My doc wanted me to do the endoscopy but since I was self pay he said the upper GI was good enough for him , it shows everything he needs to know and he didnt see the point in having the other the one done .

I had to fight him one time he wanted me to have a sleep apena test well those things are super darn exepnsive and I flat out told him no .

I asked him what are you going to do different in the operarting room if I had that test done compared to somebody that didnt have the test done.

He said not a darn thing I treat all my patients the same I said well there is your reason why Im not getting it done .

I understand they may want to be thorough but what is the point of having tests done if they don't affect anything on the surgery day?  Sleep apnea is drastic because you could stop breathing on the table.  Its just frustrating!

Very true about the sleep apena but you can stop breathing even if you dont have it , and plus a friend of mine  had his gall bladder taken out and he didnt have to have a sleep apena test done and the they say this surgery is even easier then the gall bladder surgery done so that was one of the reasons why I fought him on it also .

I think if you get the Upper GI done then you shouldnt have to get the other one done .  Now my friend had to have both of them done because insurance required it the doctor didnt but insurance .

I seem to be in the minority but I didn't have either the endoscopy or the upper GI.  I suspect it was because I had no history of GI problems or reflux or anything.  But I don't really know why I didn't have to have one done.  If your PCP is not willing to work with you and your surgeon I would get a new PCP...remember they work for you!!!  If you don't like the service you're getting get a new doctor.

Or ask the surgeon to contact the pcp with those recommendations. Let them fight it out.

Call your PCP office manager and start the complaint process.

Why can't your surgeon refer you for these things? They're the one who wants it done.
