Is this right?

When you have a fill within so many weeks you lose weight. Then you have another fill and lose a few more lbs....

If you stay at that fill you maintain the weight you reached until you have another fill which helps you in losing more.

Many of you read my long troubled post. I stated I've been at the same weight since my last fill in July/August of 2008 so once I get my band fixed and I get another fill will I go back to the way it was initially where I dropped a ton right at the start and then a ton more after my 1st fill then half that amount after my 2nd? OR will I lose slowly as if I were going for my 3rd fill?

I have about 35-45 more lbs to lose (I am basing my weight on how clothing fits and how I feel physically opposed to an exact number) so I was wondering how getting my band repaired is going to affect me. I've maintained for almost 3 yrs figuring I was stuck there until I had another fill not expecting for something to go wrong...

There's no guarantee with fills. It's better to keep your band on the looser side than the tighter. Having more of a fill isn't going to help you lose weight... it will cause you to have more trouble eating healthier foods.

I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, though.  The band depends on how much swelling there is in your stomach tissues along with a lot of other factors.

I think your main concern is getting the band fixed so that you can eat healthily and not have pain. If your band is slipped, there's a good chance having another band placed will also fail. If given the opportunity, you may want to look into revising.

Up until I had pnuemonia and was violently coughing 24/7 I never had any issues with my band, which gives me hope. I knew I needed a fill prior to that as I only ever had 1.5cc ever put into my band. Based on my history and ability to maintain weight for so long without medical care, fills, or anything I am assuming they will adjust my band (Dr. I talked to believes the coughing caused a slip).
Once I get this fixed my honey and I have agreed that no matter what I will be going to Dr. Baptista and getting the overall care I need. Which means adjustments and fills and basically back on the program.
When that happens instead of maintaining will I start losing again? I am assuming when they fix it they are going to take out all of the fluid. Will I need to get above 1.5cc (where I am at right now) before I start losing weight again?

Oh, I think I see. If your band slipped, there's a better than average chance it will slip again, unfortunately. And sometimes with a second band, it's totally different than with the first one. There's just no guarantee about anything with the band, I'm afraid!

They will most likely take all the fluid out when they reposition your band, yes. You might even have to have an entirely new band put in, ya never know. I think they need to detemine what's gone wrong with your band before you'll know anything for sure.

I think Dr. Baptista can answer those questions for you, though.

Unfortunately, there is no "set" amount of fluid in your band to equate to a designated amount of desired weight loss - everyone is SO different in this regard. Some people need 8 or 9ccs in their band to feel appropriate restriction. Others, 5 or 6 ccs. For me, I am at a mere 3.1 ccs in my 10 cc band and I have been at perfect restriction with this amount for 20 months (whi*****luded my weight loss phase and 15+ months now of maintenance).

The fill is not what makes you lose weight. Healthy eating and good food choices/balance, combined with adequate water intake and a steady exercise regimen is what makes you lose weight. The fill will just help you get full faster. That is it. Period. It is up to you to make the right food choices in conjunction with sufficient restriction. If you do all of these things, the weight will start to come off again. Please don't rely so much on the fill itself. You will probably set yourself up for disappointment if you don't focus on the big picture (eating, drinking, exercise, protein).

Honestly, you don't even have to wait to get the fill to start getting the rest of these things in order. Use this time wisely and get yourself on a solid plan.

Any other questions, I'm here for you Tiffany! Hope that helps. :)

Of course Steelerfan! I feel the same way about your posts. Always very informative and helpful. Moreover, you are LIVING proof that this is true. All of your weight loss with NO fill at all. That is something to be proud of. :)

thank you Lisa :o)

The reason why I'm probably so strict with myself and fills and always asking people on here if they really need one before they try everything else is because I know somebody that abuses the fills alot.

they think that the fill will make them lose weight, or if you hit  snag lets run and get a fill , or oops I can eat more then a cup of food I need a fill.  I have seen her do this so many times and to be honest I told myself when I got the band I would not be like that .

She uses no self power, no self control but uses the fills as a crutch and its very sad and there is nothing I can do and say to her so I just let it go .  You can only do and say so much .

I have lost more weight in  5 months then she has in 3yrs.  She now is to the point that she can only eat a 1/2 cup of food or even that sometimes and her blood work came back awful she has to take so many vitamins.  Her doc should have caught it but you when you lie to the doctor and tell him what he wants to hear to get a fill then he is going to give you a fill .

So that is why I question when they only eat so much per day or they say I think I need a fill I always ask them first what are you eating or is it really head hunger  and you do need self control and will power for this surgery or any WLS for that fact you can not rely on the fills to help you lose weight or always curb your hunger there has to be self control.

My doc made that so clear to me when I first saw him between him and my NUT they told me that everytime  I saw them lol. And doctors should tell their patients that the fills are not the answers . Like you said they help curb your hunger that is it nothing else , the fills are not a miracle worker it all comes back down to you doing the work.

She just really scared me on how she did the fills and like I said I swore I would never ever be that way because of that .

I was trying to explain that today in another post without going into the detail like I did on this but I dont think it came out right :o(

I'm not trying to be snotty or looking down at people that do get fills but I have been through this for 3 yrs with my friend and I just dont want to see anybody else do what she does because in the long run it can hurt you instead of helping you .

Jolena and that is exactly what she is to :o( .   There are several in my support group like that also .  I had one person even come up and tell me just lie to the doc on how much you are eating and he will give you a fill  and that is what my friend did she lied and there goes the needle in you *sigh*

Can you believe that ?  I would never ever tell anybody that .
