Now that I am past the post op diet, my doctor says 1/2 a cup of food 3 times a day from now on. Is that the kind of daily food intake most of you are on? Even though I am doing well on it, it seems like some of you are allowed more than that a day.
Talk to me please

maybe early out, but i would consider that breakfast these days - compared to your daily allowance.

i wasn't given a "rule" book, just follow what works for me & how active i am.
typically i eat 4/5 times a day - w/lunch my main meal.     i'm up early & don't care to eat in the evenings.

i think a one size fit all plan does't scale long term.

My doctor doesn't go by cups, or at least he didn't 2 years ago when I was banded.

I was advised 3oz of protein and 1/2 cup of low carb veggies.   At the beginning, I actually ate 4oz of protein because I was SMO and felt like 3oz just wasn't enough.  As I've lost weight, I've gone to 3oz.

Now, when I go in, the form I fill out before seeing anyone asks how many cups of food I'm eating and has check boxes for 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, 1 cup, 1.5 cups.. I have to mark through them and write 3oz protein & 1/2 cup veggies cause that's what I was taught!

If you are satisfied on the 1/2 cup, I wouldn't worry about it for now.  Personally, I don't want to drop below about 1000 calories a day.. but that is a personal criteria.  Your body might have different needs.

I'm like redbabe that would be my breakfast

We are not allowed to eat less then a cup of food per meal. Like I told another poster if we cant get down one cup of food per meal he will actually take saline out of you because he does not like less then a cup of food per meal.

Me personally and this is just me speaking . I dont think that is enough food to live on and to get the nutrients that you need I think in time you would start to have problems with blood work unless you take a boat load of vitamins .

I eat three cups of food per day sometimes I will eat a cup and half depends on what I am eating and a couple of snacks and I have a very hard time just getting in 1300 calories per day I cant imagine how many calories you are getting in a day but it wouldn't be enough for me to be honest .

I would be sick and pass out if that is all I was eating especially with exercise I would be hungry all the time   Gosh I can see why so many of you run and get fills all the time on the amounts of food you can eat .

Gosh I can see why so many of you run and get fills all the time on the amounts of food you can eat <--what's that suppose to mean?

I understand you haven't had a fill and haven't needed one but that's not the case for most of us. I don't have a lot in my band either and I like to keep it on the looser side but it can be a double edge sword on my part because when I want to indugle I indulge too much or too often so I have to take the good with the bad.. Sometimes a fill is what is needed to help the belly full and the head know you don't need more food your satified a lot of us have that problem thats why we had the band place.

I think it's great your forging forward without a fill one but that's not the norm for most ..

Its not even about getting fills Hermosa, a average in good shape human being like my mom she couldn't even survive on just a 1/2 cup of food per meal she would be wanting to get fills all the time also .

I'm not saying its bad to get fills that is why we got the band , but its not good either for the body not to get the nutrients you need .

I'm sorry but just eating a 1/2 cup of food per meal and to add exercise on top of that of course you will lose at first then it will stop because your body is not getting the fuel it needs , then you go and get a fill and then your food gets cut down even more from the way alot of the ladies talk on here .

I dont see how that is healthy at all.  It does come to a point that you cant rely on the fills all the time you have to have some head control and self control because we all know this band could come out of us tomorrow then what do we do ?

We are so use to that tight restriction you go into shock because its not there that is why I think its better to keep the band loose and if something does happen to the band at least you wont be in total shock when it comes out and you cant feel that tight restriction anymore because you are not use to it.

I guess I look at this band alot different then alot of people on here .  I just dont to rely on fills all the time because there may come a time I wont have the band or them fills to rely on :o(   It will be myself and I that I have to rely on

I use the band to remind me that I have to slow down and I cant eat them bigger portions all the time .  We know what could happen if we do that , the band could slip or worse yet you have to have it taken out .  So if you know them two huge risks why would you even try to overeat all the time or no****ch your portions . Now there is something in our body that could cause you some major major headaches if you dont follow the rules hell it can cause headaches if you follow the rules we all know that to.  So why even take the risk ? I sure dont . Me personally Im to damn scared to overeat because I dont have 20 grand to go back and get this done again .

The wanting to get fills all the time is the statement that I think is not fair to us who get fills. I see your had your mom as example but I don't know who you are refering too when you said GOSH I see why your guys are in a rush to get a fill? That sounds to me like your pointing your nose down on us "the ones that need fills" .. it's personal preference we all had surgery for different reason and different issues.. for a long time I was good at 5 ccs in my band and some need 8 cc.. it's a to each their own.. we aren't all the same and we all don't need the same amount of fluid in our band to be successful and we should all follow our doctors plan.

Your body only needs 500 calories to function and most women should consume 1200 calories a day.. those of us who had surgery we aren't body builders we don't need to be at the gym 2 hours a day mega weight lifting and need to consume 120 grams of protein and 1800 calories a day.. it's finding a happy medium with yourself.. Do you like to exercise ... NO .. then stay in line with your food (should you exercise of course but some don't like or they take a brisk 20 min walk that's not heavy calorie burn) Health is realtive .. it's only applies to you if you are including fruits and veggies but to eat 1 and 1/2 cup of meat and beans isn't that considered healthy? Just because someone can eat more doesn't mean they might make the best choice.. instead of eating chicken and green beans vs. pizza because it has more calories you need for the day. I mean it's all relative..

Your comment to me made me feel like someone saying to you.. why do you need a band anyways if your doing it on your own with no fills?

Im not pointing my nose down to anyone about getting fills. My two best friends have bands and get fills .

I do not have a problem getting fills and Im not saying I will never need one either .I could need one next month I dont know that .

And Im sorry if you took it that way it was not meant that way I was talking about I can see why people would go and get fills with only 1/2 cup of food because that is not enough food at all. If that is what I had to eat I would be at the docs every month getting fills .

Once again it wasnt meant on how you took it and Im sorry .I was not putting you down or anybody that gets fills . Why would I do that because it might be next week when I get one who knows.

And yes I have had plenty of people tell me why did you get the band if you are not using it to get fills ?  My answer is simple. I got the band to constantly remind me to slow down and not to eat them bigger portions .  That is what I wanted from the band and that is how I work the band and so far Im very successful doing it that way .

In the beginning, when there was still swelling, that would have been fine. During "banster hell" it wouldn't have come close. Now, I usually eat 1 cup or 3/4 cup per meal. Ideally thats 1/2 cup protein, 1/4 cup veggies, and 1/4 cup carbs. Sometimes I leave off the carbs. I also have at least 1 snack a day, and that cam with the workouts. If I walk and workout, it's 2 snacks. And THAT'S funny cause I used to be a carb/sweet-oholic. I just hope it stays like this.
