Hi, I had my gastric band surgery about 5-6 weeks ago and now I am soo hungry,
waiting for first fill soon.  Does the band get wider or losen prior to surgery but no symptoms?
My appetitie seems to get out of control.
what to do?

It's going to be this way until you get a few fills. Don't sweat it... the restriction comes slowly, month by month. So for now, it's basically like you don't have a surgery. You may have had decreased hunger right after surgery because of swelling. Now it's back to the old way. So for now, just practice your rules, eat what you should... do your BEST to control portions, but don't sweat it. If you eat large portions, just eat healthy foods!

are you getting enough protein in also ? Elena gave you great advice .

I have to make sure I get at least 20-25 grams of protein per meal or I get hungry also :o)

The swelling has gone down from surgery which has loosened your band

Oh thank god, I thought I was failing! Seriously, you've brought tears to my eyes because now I know I'm not a failure and I'm not alone.

Thank you so much for posting this!

Welcome to Bandster hell. Just know we all went though it. I felt like I was dieting for the first couple of months, it is hard. Just stick to your Dr's guidelines, have some other things that you can do when it gets really bad, (call a friend, read, walk) and if all else fails have a small high protein snack. Once you get a few fills you will feel better, but it usually takes a few to get to your "sweet spot". Good luck!!

I am 8 weeks out. I felt like this around 4 weeks had my first fill at 5 weeks. I was still hungry, increase your protein, it really does help you feel full. I also drink a glass of fat free milk with sugar free Chocolate syrup whenever I feel hungry or have a sweet tooth...it's working for now. When do you get your first fill?

Hi,
I am at 3 weeks post surgery and I get that starving feeling much quicker than I did at week one and two.  My nutritionist advised me to add a little extra fiber to my food, and eat some peanut butter between meals during my first month.    I have never enjoyed hunger pangs- that how I got here ;-)

Don't forget to drink lost of water too- good luck!
