You might get more responses to this thread if you re-name it with "band slip" in the topic line.

I had a band slip 2 years ago. It was probably caused by my untreated hiatal hernia. It was cured by a complete unfill and 6 week rest period. I had gotten maybe 2 re-fills when I learned that my port had flipped and was virtually inaccessible, and it took me a few months to schedule surgery to reposition it (because of other things going on in my life at the time), so between the slip and the port flip, I managed to re-gain 25 pounds. I didn't go crazy with eating while underfilled - I was just hungry all the time and able to eat any amount of anything. But as soon as I got a decent amount of fill back in there, the hunger calmed down and I could no longer eat much at one time, and I lost the re-gain.

My advice for surviving this situation is to exercise as much as possible, keep problem foods out of your house, keep a food log so you know what's really going in your mouth, and be kind to yourself (but not with food!).

Hang in there!

Hi Jean,

When your port flipped, was there a specific event that caused it? I'm just wondering if there are things that could increase chances of that happening, or if it's just a random thing...

Julia,

We don't know what caused the flip. I asked my surgeon if my workout routine could've done it, and she said maybe, but that's not a good reason to avoid situps! It could be the result of poor surgical technique on the part of my original surgeon, or just dumb luck.

If I hadn't wanted a fill, I never would've known my port was flipped - I didn't feel anything, couldn't see anything - it's a mystery!

Sorry you have the slip but you also have to take extra measures to keep the pounds away. You still have to choose the right foods and stick with lots of dense protein to help feel fuller. If you continue to eat the bandster way you should be able to keep the gain to a minimum. Good luck!

I agree with Hislady also.

Even when you did have fills in your band it was still YOU that had to make the choices of food that you put in your body .

Just because you have no fills dont use that as a excuse to put all the bad foods in your in mouth that is not the bands fault that will be yours.

You still have to eat the right way .

And if you keep it in your mind that well I have no fill in my band and I can eat anything I want all the time then of course you are going to gain weight anybody would .

Get that out of your head follow the bandster rules and you can still lose weight.

I have no fills in my band from my own choice of not having fills and I can lose 5-8 pounds per month. I watch what I eat, I watch my portions and I exercise , and drink my water.

If I get hungry I grab some yogurt , or some peanuts.  I dont sit there and obsess about food .

If you allow food to become your obsession again then you are going to mentally in your mind that you need to eat all the time when in reality you dont need to .

you can do this :o)
