Who has tried the "Low Carb" thing?
I am attempting it. Has anyone had success with it? I am not really doing the atkins thing, I guess I'm just eliminating processed foods and sugars. Kinda like the WW core program I guess? Lots of protien and veggies, Low Glycemic fruit like rasberries as a treat.
Did the sugar cravings subside after the first couple of weeks? Did the weight come off faster than with calorie restriction?
Any tips?
THANKS!

Hi old friend! (This is TamiFromAL)
I gained a bit over the holidays, and then got completely unfilled because of heartburn/ulcer. I started low-carbing first just as a "transition", but have liked the lifestyle so much that I'm sticking with it. At first I cut out everything except meat, poultry, fish & seafood and non-starchy veggies. Basically eggs for breakfast, either a salad with meat or soup (chicken/veggie or beef veggie) for lunch, and grilled meat and veggies for dinner. I gradually eased up a bit, and added back beans/legumes, cheese and other dairy, and occasioanlly a starchy veggie like corn or peas. I lost the weight I'd gained, even completely unfilled. I still avoid almost all processed foods, most fast foods, and sugar and flour products in any form.
To answer your question, if you really knuckle down for the first few days to a week and tough it out, yes the cravings subside. I don't know that low-carbing in itself makes weight come off faster, but I find the foods that I can eat to be more satisfying than a typical low-calorie/low-fat diet, so I stick to it better.
I haven't stuck with this 100% by any means. As a matter of fact, once a month or so I go "off" for one reason or another, for a few days, but just go back to it as soon as the scale starts moving in the wrong direction.

Hey Tami!!!
Yeah, after my last preganacy 2 yrs ago I could never get restriction right. I've been flying solo. Was doing REALLY awesome the first year after I had Hayden bc I was running A LOT training for a 5k. After the 5k the weight slowly crept up. So I've gained 20 pounds back. GRRR.
Hoping this will kickstart my weight loss and get my badonkadonk in gear.
I've been good for 14 hrs. Starting to feel the carb crash right now. I have hypoglycemia so this will be hell.

I think that it really depends on the person as it doens't seem to work for all, but low carb is the only thing that works for me. It was reccomeneded to me by my surgeon. When I don't do hard core Atkins style low carb the scale either doens't move or just creaps.
When I stick to < 20 grams of carbs a day the scale moves.
I am down 135lbs total.
the sugar cravings do leave after a few weeks.

LOL, yeah it isn't easy but it works and it is the only thing that does for me. I am one of those unfortunate ones who doens't have much restriction most days so I have to rely on diet and exercise.
I live on protein shakes and a few ounces of meat and cheese.
