I have minor heartburn at times.  I use the chewable GasX.  It really helps, but I've never had really bad heartburn, but my grandad has IBS and related issues and uses GasX, too.  I think you should talk to your surgeon.  If you don't want to go in and (I'm assuming), have to pay a co-pay or out of pocket if you aren't going to get a fill, maybe give your surgeon a call in the a.m. and ask then.

If it were me I'd skip the fill until you get the heartburn taken care of. The only time I ever got heartburn was when I was too tight, even tho I didn't think I was. Heartburn and the band are not a good combo and usually leads to problems. Talk to your surgeon and see what he thinks. Good luck!

I'm behind Hislady - Heartburn is a symptom of a band that's too tight or a possible slip.  Please avoid the fill until you talk to your doctor and find out what's going on.  Try to push for an upper GI done.

Hi Renee,
I've had my lapband a little over a year now.  Prior to the band, I had really bad heartburn with acid reflux.  At every f/up, my surgeon would ask if I had heartburn and did not understand why until the time I answered yes.  He put me on prilosec for about 10 days & if the heartburn did not go away, he was going to take a tiny bit of my fill out.  Just .3 can make a difference - still had satiation - but no more heartburn!

Tomorrow is Wednesday - if you still have it tomorrow, you should just call your doc & let him know.  They may just want to recommend an acid reducer to see if it takes care of it.  Last thing you want to do is let it go, stay uncomfortable, and risk an ulcer forming in your beautiful new little lap-banded tummy.

I also recently did a 14 day OTC Prilosec treatment for heartburn and it worked wonders ! I would mention it to the Dr tomorrow and see what he says.  Good luck ! :)

DO NOT get that 2ND fill if you are having trouble with heartburn. It will only make it worse and you will end up having to sleep in a reclined position hoping to keep the burning acids from creeping up your throat.
It sounds like you may need an unfill, so that you can give your esophagus a rest.

This is straight from my surgeons mouth.

When you are menstruating you bloat EVERYWHERE. so your band will tighten around your bloated stomach tissue. I am ALWAYS too tight when I am on my period.

Other times I am too tight are :

When my allergies kick in due to the Santa Ana winds.
When my sinus are draining.
When I am in pain. When I am very upset or angry. It might be because I am releasing some kind of hormone or whatever, but I cannot eat a bite if I have been crying or am extremely upset.
