30 oz of fluids isn't much. Really work on getting more fluids in. What color is your urine? If it's dark then you aren't getting in enough fluids. As far as the pain, everyone is different. Some people have a more difficult time after any type of surgery.
After awhile I got tired of the sweet milky shakes and used Zero carb Isopure. It comes in a 20 oz glass bottle with 40 grams of protein. It's not sweet, but it was easier for me to drink. I found it at a GNC store and I also ordered it online through Amazon.com and the price was about the same even with shipping.

Forgot to ask before. What is Biotene?
Also, since you're a nurse I figured I'd ask this question. I also have been getting a bad, jabbing pain on my left side that goes around to my back. The other night it was so painful my boyfriend was on stand-by to take me to the hospital. Could this be another version of gas pains or something else?

If you are eating a lot of fiber then according to my gasto doc...it is gas pain. I'm not sure I am buying it, but he told me to stop eating after 12:00 noon and to limit my fiber to later rather then first thing in the morning.
I'd like that jack ass to stop eating before noon everyday. I told him that I rarely eat before noon due to morning band tightness. He told me to drink a cup of hot coffee to loosen my band so I can eat in the morning.
You know what ? I haven't had anything to eat this morning and I have been up since 5 :OO AM. Why am I feeling the same pain you are experiencing. I think my gastro doc is an A-hole.

Biotene is for dry mouth, here's a website with info:
http://www.biotene.com/
I'm sure the pain is gas pain. Are you able to take short frequent walks? Some say that a heating pad helps with shoulder pain from the gas.

I took 1 week because it was vacation week.
While i was home i walked a lot.
I do counseling with kids in a school and i drive to different locations to supervise and counsel. and it is also stressful. I was worried because iwas always going up and down stairs. I just took it slow at the beginning.
I think every body recovers differently so don't judge by someone else.
If your body needs rest give it rest. I will tell you I think walking helped a lot.

If you have sick leave, take it...at least a week. Your doctor can fax or email you a note, if you need it. Going to the grocery store kicked my butt for about 2-3 weeks...general anesthesia is hard on us!
The port is something you will always be slightly aware of, but not painful.
The mouth thing is from the anesthesia too...sip your water constantly, it helps.
Hang in there, things get better!

I had surgery on Tuesday and didn't return to work till the following Thursday.. and even then thank heavens I only had to work two days to complete the week.
You need to walk as much as possible this helps you feel normal again.. I don't your consuming fiber just having surgery your on the liquids stage.. your not eating anything.. your only drinking liquids even if it's soup it's liquid nothing to really munch plus you need to make sure your getting enough water.. you just feel drained .. I completely understand that's how I felt .. when I was able to eat a bit thicker soups I started to feel better.. I slept on the couch for two weeks before I felt normal on the bed again.
YOu won't always be able to feel your port... but then when you lose a good amount of weight you will be able to feel it a little more often.
I believe you need to drink more water so you don't feel like yuck mouth LOL..
Good Luck :) hope you feel better.
