1 week post op
I had my lap band surgery last week (april 18, 2011) and it's been one hell of a roller coaster trying to heal. I won't get my first fill until 5 weeks. I'm feeing much better now that I'm not in so much pain. however; I was a little sad that I couldn't enjoy any of the yummy Easter dinner that was prepared. Honestly I haven't been able to "eat" anything. I started off with the broth and even tried the protein shake but can't seem to keep anything down. I haven't been able to take my multivitamin med because I can't keep anything down. I feel like I'm heading down a very unhealthy path and really don't know what to do. No food, no meds jus****er. I was 221 the day of the surgery (4/18/11) and now I'm 210.2 (4/25/11). I just don't know what to do. I have an apptmnt on the 28th for the doc to check my weight and sutures. I pray they are able to provide me with something. I want to lose the weight but I also what to be healthy while doing it and not eating nor taking the necessary medication is not getting off to a good start. If anyone
has any advice for me, I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance

According to other posts ive read it seems that the post-op diet is neither fun or easy... My surgeon is very strict and wants me on a liquid diet for 12 weeks! I dont even know how i will manage... But like all things, it passes. I know you will get through this, just keep strong and discuss any concerns w/ your surgeon after all that IS what he is here for. Best wishes
You're not able to keep broth down? Are you able to take in your water? If you are not getting enough basic fluids in - then please get in to your doctors before your Thurs appointment.
When you say you're "not able to keep it down", do you mean you are vomitting? That's the last thing you want to do as a recent post-op & you really should contact your doctors office first thing in the morning.
But if you are able to keep clear fluids down, then it will slowly get better. When you refer to vitamins, do you mean chewables? For medications, my doctor gave me liquid pain meds and then a pill crusher to turn the other stuff I needed to take into powder. Then I added it to juice and tried to ignore the nasty taste. You just need to make sure with the pharmacist that it's okay to grind the pills. ...dangerous to grind some types of medications.
Take care, and please call your doctor asap if you have been vomitting.

Glad the pain is subsiding for you. I hope by now that you have called your doctor if you are trying to sip fluids and they are not staying down. You need to be getting liquids down and staying down. As far as eating, you shouldn't be trying foods yet anyway, I do believe. I was on liquids only for 2 weeks after. Then puree, soft, and then reg food. So it's a long process. But right now it's the liquids that are important.
As far as Easter dinner and Easter goodies, I do understand it's difficult and sad. I did my surgery over the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and NY's. None of those holidays were like days of old for me. I did get through them and for once in my life, did not GAIN weight over the holidays!! So I had to look on the bright side.
The days will get better, I promise. Let us know how you make out.
