Okay, maybe I have a stupid question, but how much is too much and does anyone ever feel like they can still eat a cow?  I feel like I'm a pretty good judge at when I'm full(not hungry) but today wasn't a good day.  I had such a great day Friday and it seems like today I just stuffed myself.  Well, I had 2 scrabbled eggs and a 1/3 cup corned beef hash, then lunch I had a 1/2 c ham, 2 eggs, and 1/3 c cucumber salad, then for supper I had a hot dog, hamburger, both w/out buns, and 1/2 c cucumber salad.  I actually got another hot dog, but I had my daughter throw my plate away, because I was tooo full.....Maybe I jumped the gun on Friday when I did such a good post on how I felt that I was doing great, cuz now I feel like I'm doing horrible....Lastnight was the first night I felt that I got stuck..I had a hardboiled egg...Oh boy, it felt like a ball of uncomfortableness in my chest...I drank some water and after about 5 min it went away...I'm assuming thats what it was anyway?  I don't know guys, any ideas here???  I have 4.5 ccs in my 11 cc band.  I cant get another fill till 5/18, they only do them a month apart?  Any words of wisdom??

Are you tracking your food at all??  I am a week after you and just entering into the real food stage.  I also have no fill yet and don't think I am going to need one when I go on Wednesday.  I am sticking strong to the 4-6 ounces of food per meal like my surgeon says.  At this point i can barely get in the protein so the vegetables and anything that comes after it is not even going down.  I also try to stick to 600 - 800 calories per day at this point.  I track all of my food religiously on fitday.com.   I also blog on a fairly regular basis.

Perhaps going back to the "rules" instead of counting on your body letting you know would be a good step???

Good luck!!! It's a continuous journey for us!

I am tracking my foods.  I am staying under 800 cals, which is what I was told to do.  I think I just need to take a step back and get my head on straight and revisit my binder from my docs.  I seem to do better when I have pre-measured foods. Thank you for the suggestions!!!

Good luck and your right this journey of learning is never ending.

Hi, I weigh out my 3 oz of dense protein and have about a 1/4c of a veggie and then I stop. I don't know how much I could eat, I don't want to chance stretching my upper pouch or esophagus.  Good restriction means not being hungry for 4+ hours, not about my band stopping me from eating another bite.  I have never felt "full", my new full is not being hungry.  If I get hungry I will have a high protein snack or some fruit etc.

Did your surgeon tell you how much to eat?  Really work on eating slowly and chewing at least 20 times before swallowing.

Hi Kristi...

I am to have about 600-800 calories a day, w/ 60-80 grams of protein...What I need is ot remember to eat slowly and just chew...just enjoy my food, I don't have to hurry through it.  Thank you all for the reminders and puttin my big butt back on track!!!!

I am a big foodie and I guess I was before band but mine has taken a huge turn.

Were you eating hot dogs and burgers because thats what you made the family? I personally would distance myself from processed foods like that.

Even if you do not have restrictions I would gear yourself up for it. Going that far in with a hot dog + and a hamburger patty is testing your boundaries. I had to set my mind to this is what I am doing because I want to do it and I eat 6-12 oz for a meal and I make it worth it. I have found that I can come up with healthy yummy things just with creativity.

Challenge yourself and give the family a new di****'s amazing what flavors you come up with that are heart healthy for you and your family.

B: 2 scrambled eggs + 1/3 cup corned beef hash = almost 3/4 cup food
L: 1/2 cup ham + 2 eggs + 1/3 cup cucumber salad = 1and 1/3 cup food
D: hot dog + burger + cucumber salad = about 1 and 1/3 cup of food

Are you allowed snacks??  I was eating 6 times per day at your stage (1 month out)

B: 1 egg (poached or scrambled) + 1 pc turkey bacon
S: 1 pc lf string cheese
L: 1/3 cup tuna salad + 8 wheat thins
S. 1 pc string cheese + diced peeled apple (about 1 oz)
D: 3 oz chicken, beef, pork or fish, about 2 tbs cooked veggies such as zucchini
S: protein pudding cup (1/2 cup instant sf pudding made with nf milk and 2 scoops protein powder) makes 4-5 servings.

You really need to be careful of over eating and packing your pouch.  This can cause esophogeal dilation or slips...

Also, ham, hot dogs and processed foods such as corned beef hash are very high sodium and 4 eggs per day puts your cholesterol way over the limit.  There are other options for healthy eating at this stage.

The size of your fill is completely irrelevant at this point.  To be focused on fills is indicative that you are waiting for your band to STOP you from eating, when that is not it's purpose.  Try eating exactly per your doctor's and nutritionists direction, measuring and logging your food and stay away from processed foods and see if you get hungry between meals.  If you do, then a small snack of 8 gr protein + 15 gr healthy carbs will get you through.  I found that after about 6 weeks I didn't need the morning snack and now I eat one in the afternoon occasionally and have a light dessert only once in a while.
