Hi , I am new to this forum, I have just had my 1st visit with my nutritionist and the Nurse last week and I was wondering...... they were saying  that after lapband the average loss is up to 50% of the Excess Body Wieght , but that doesnt mean I wouldnt be able to continue to lose after that right?
The nutricionist was saying I should do the bypass, after I told her I wanted to do the Lapband . So thats why I am here asking the question. If is a tool to help me loose weight whats to stopping me from loosing more than 50% of the excess body wieght?
Has anyone lost beyond 50% of their excess body wieght?

Calimal...I was able to lose 100% of excess body weight.  It certainly is possible when you work with your band and have the mindset that the band is not going to do all the work for you.  It takes team work!

I have released 57# since surgery 12/17/10 and am still going strong--if you follow the 5-6 meals a day plan and eat dense protein staying away from white stuff--sugar/bread/white flour/potatoes and rice ---you can loose all the way down to your goal weight---lots of people on this forum have done it.  You will hit plateau sp?  You must exercise to keep the weight coming off.  It is just a tool---any surgery is a tool---the most important part is 100% commitment and doing everything they tell you to do.

Best wishes with whatever you do

Me!

Started at 383 day of surgery.  According to BMI charts, the most I should weigh for my height (and not be overweight) is 150.

383 - 150 = 233lbs to lose.     I've lost 196lbs so far and am continuing to lose.   But I'm not shooting for 150.  My goal is 170 and then to consider whether or not I want to get smaller.  So based on my 170 goal, I'm almost there.  :)  Way over 50%.

I think the BMI is inaccurate for older people, those who've been obese for a long time (our bones are heavier and skew the chart) and athletes (not an athlete..yet.. but I do work out 6 days a week for at least 90 minutes).

I had more than one doctor tell me I would only lose 50lbs with the band.  I so enjoy seeing them now and their awe and amazement at my success.

My doc said to expect to lose 50% of my excess body weight the first year. THe rest would come off in year 2 and 3 if I stayed with the program eating right and exercising. I am still preband this is just the info I was give. I have been  to a lot of forums and many people reach goal.

I have lost more so far

I was 354 now I am 214

354 -160= 194 to lose.  I have lost 140lbs so far...

I too exercise 6 days a week, 90 minutes a day.  60 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight lifting...then stretching afterward

I started at 253 and am now 162, 7 pounds away from what is considered normal for my height. So I have lost 91 pounds out of the 98 pounds that I had to loose in two years. So that is pretty close to 100% of my excess weight. I lost weight during the three months before surgery, I figured that it would be less that I had to loose after. I could loose weight most of the time but could not keep it off for very long at all. You can loose alot of weight with the band but the band will not limit you from being to able to eat cookies cake and ice cream so it takes a lot willpower and determination but it can be done. I wish you the best of luck with whichever surgery you choose to have.
