3 days out- What is my "new" fullness?

I am three days post-op.  I am supposed to get in enough liquid to be equivalent to four-five bottles of water.  I also have to get in 50-70 grams of protein.  I made my protein shake this morning.  I take three drinks and I get a pain across my chest.  I am not for sure it this is my sign for fullness???  I do not want to push anything, but I also need to get these liquids down.  How can I tell what my "new" fullness feels like?  I am nervous about hurting anything so I want to be a "good" bandster.  Do you have any suggestions on what it felt like for you right out of the shoot when you your new tummy was saying slow down?

Cristie....first off congratulations on your WLS.    Are you sipping and not gulping your shake??   If you took a big swallow that could be the hurting.    I remember when I was newly post op.....I would take a sip....wait a few minutes and then take another one.    As for the "full" feeling.   I never got there.   I would get a "I am satisfied feeling" and stop there.    Take things nice and slow.   You may want to go for the protein shakes that have lots of protein in them.     Good luck and relax.....I am sure you won't hurt you new band.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Congratulations on your surgery!  Right now, you are healing, nothing more.  You don't need to be concerned about calories or feeling full.  You need to stay hydrated, that is your number one priority.  I was on clear liquids for the first week (3 days out seems early for a protein shake but I know that every doctor is different) so it was almost impossible for me to get that 50-70 grams of protein at first.  So above all, stay hydrated.  Sip slowly but keep at it.

I had te same kind of pain that you are having the day of and after my surgery after about 3 sips.  Turns out that with the swelling and the fluid that was already in my band, I wasn't just too tight, I was completely closed and once those three or so sips filled up my esophogus, back up it came.  The day after my surgery I went in and had about half the fluid that was already in my band removed and I felt relief instantly.  Has anything come back up since your surgery?  I only ask because I tried for an entire day to tell myself that what was happening was totally normal and it wasn't and I was at risk for becoming dehydrated.

As far as recognizing what your soft stops are going to be, that will take some time.  I figured mine out a month or so ago, my throat starts to gurgle a little.  (It's doing it right now actually and I've only had half my yogurt this morning)  You will get there, but for now, just concentrate on healing.  Follow your food progression and above all, stay hydrated.  If you need to take longer between your sips, by all means do so.  But if you did start with some fluid in your band and your liquids have been coming back up, call your doctor about having some of the fluid removed.

Good luck!  And again... CONGRATULATIONS!

The feelings you have having now is the pressure from swelling from surgery and the gases  that are built up. Sip slow, take your time, stick to your liquids like you are suppose to. This feeling of fullness like this is temporary the most important thing for now is to learn to follow what you are suppose to eat, drink and avoid. :)  Concentrate on your proteins that is your friend :) I know I sound like a broken record sunshine...but walk walk walk right now it is so very important for your own comfort the next bit of time :)
Grats on your spot on the bench, looking forward to seeing your success in your journey. :)

just keep swimming,

Thank you ladies very much for the support!  I am just a nervous nelly and afraid I am pushing too many fluids.  I just do not want to do anything the wrong way and mess my band up.  I will keep sipping and walking and stop when I feel a tightness.

Thanks again!

I had my surgery on Monday also, I'm with you having a hard time getting all the shakes in. I did pretty good today but it's difficult. I just have no appetite at all and just feel "heavy" because of the swelling and bloating in my tummy. Thank goodness the gas has subsided but I really have to force myself to drink. I use the body fortress protein powder first thing in the morning...one scoop of that with 6 oz of skim milk gives me 33 grams of protein off the bat. That way I don't have so far to go, almost half my daily requirement in one shake. They sell it at walmart for like $15 for a can that will last for 27 shakes. Cost effective and efficient! You are not alone, keep us posted on your progress!

I am on Day 9 and I too am having that heavy feeling almost all the time and having a hard time getting in my protein and water. I have 1 shake and 2 soups a day, or 2 shakes and 1 soup a day, with 600 ml non-calorie fluids. I have to really sip things over a long period otherwise I feel so bloated and nauseous.
