 Hello everyone!

Thank you for all your kind advice on my last topic.
I have decided to go forward with my lap band procedure and my surgery date is May 13th!
I am a little scared and SUPER excited about it!

Does any one have any good pre-op advice?
My surgeon did not put me on a pre-op diet but I have read some people do Atkins and some go on a optima fast (sp?) diet.... any thoughts on either? What did you guys do?

Please pray for me! I need this to work!
Thanks and happy Easter to all!

Congrats on your surgery date :o)

If you haven't cut out the soda yet might as well get a jump start on it , you wont be having it after your surgery or I should say you shouldn't be drinking it lol.

You are lucky you dont have a pre op diet that is  witch, I would just star****ching your calories, your carbs and fats to get use to what you will be eating.

Start finding you a protein drink you like , you will need to drink them at least 3-4 weeks after surgery.  The only one I liked was Muscle Milk Light the chocolate one . It was the only one I could drink without gagging on lol.

You will be just fine. I have lost 50 pounds in five months, 30 inches and I have done this all without a fill in my band .

Watch what you eat, exercise, get your water in and you will lose the weight :o)

Woo hoo! Welcome!!!

My doctor didn't require a pre op diet either. I was just adviced to eat light the night before (dinner) and not to eat anything after 6 pm. Worked just fine for me!

Hope all works for you!

 Thank you so much, ladies!
I am adding the both of you!

The ONE bad habit I don't have is drinking soda, so I am good there!
As far as protein shakes, I like the EAS ones and I drink one for breakfast every day!

I'm a little worried because I've been trying to follow  high protein/low carb diet this week but I am having such a hard time! I think I'm just too anxious and excited about all these CHANGES coming up! =)

I tried to do the same thing before my surgery and it just didn't work , I knew I was having the surgery but to actually do it and make it work just didn't click for me till I had the band in me :o)

Now , all the band does is remind not to eat fast, not to eat to much and I'm just fine with that .

After a couple months in , it will get easier to make better choices.  I still eat out at fast foods but I make better choices now instead of burgers I get the grilled chicken and take the bread off and instead of ordering french fries I snag them off hubby or son so I can control how much I eat. :o)  It will become a habit and you wont even think twice about it lol

A vet told me on here when I first started its all about Moderation not deprivation and I live by that rule 100%.  I dont deprive myself of anything.  I still eat my bad girl foods but I just eat them in moderation now and how often I eat them foods .

Dont worry and dont stress it gets easier and easier each month on what to eat and what not to eat :o)

I am so glad you said that!
Thank you for being so encouraging and positive!

I have been kind of worried I've been having such a hard time following this diet right before the surgery, but knowing that you went through the same thing and in spite of that you have been as successful as you have gives me great hope and relief!
Like I said, I NEED this to work! =)
Thanks again!

I had no pre op diet required sort of wish I did just would of been nice to get a jump start on my loss.. but with that being said eat your FAVORITE HAMBURGER of choice because you won't be able to eat these after surgery .. I can barely take two bites of a children cheeseburger from McDonalds.. they just don't go down.. I guess thats a good thing right LOL
Also a doughy pizza like pizza hut.. because you don't be able to eat that either.. I can eat thin crust extra crispy but not much!!!!

But if you want you could start making good choices now and lose a few pounds..

My surgeon has classes we take with a nut and wanted us to practice the eating plan for the 2 weeks prior to surgery.  I did that and it really helped.  I got used to planning for 5-6 meals a day of 1/2 cup of food.  I got used to preparing the types of foods I would be eating.  I got experience in how to prepare foods without oils and fats.  I lost 6 pound in the 2 weeks prior to surgery.  My weight going to the doc for the first appointment was 264----highest weight  285---my surgery was 12/17/11 ---I have released 57 pounds.  (I don't say loose because I don't ever want to find it again!!)  One-derland is in sight and I can't wait.  The most important thing is to stick with the food plan exactly, get the required amounts of proteins etc, drink the 64-80 oz of water each day and not to cheat---no white stuff (sugar/bread/flour/potatoes/rice etc).  I have only had 2 fills and have 5.5cc in my band.  I sometimes have to fight the desire to eat more--if I do the discomfort is amazing.  I have only done that twice and don't want to repeat it.

I hope you have a support group to use and to keep focused.  That is one thing that is so excellent about the doc I used---he was one of the very earliest ones doing this surgery---they really focus on after care and helping to keep everyone on track with classes and support groups.  Best wishes to you on this journey.  Harmony
