LapBand Revision
I am scheduled for a LapBand Revision in the morning. I am very nervous. I had my initial surgery Dec 07. Have never had much weight loss. I have had several complications with the band. I have had the port to flip three times. I got an infection set up behind the port and had to have it removed. It was repositioned on the opposite side. Shortly after the last port procedure, my initial doctor lost his license and left me hanging. No other doctor wanted to see me because they had not performed my initial surgery. I have finally found a doctor to see me and after several test has requested a revision. I was told that my band is not in the correct position. Can anyone tell me about how long the down time is for a revision?

I'm so sorry you've had such a challenging situation with your band. Your surgeon lost his license?! Probably mean you are not the only patient of his with issues. My heart goes out to you and I wish you good success and a speedy recovery with your new surgery.
Yes, I couldn't believe it when I heard that he had lost his license! I am still unclear of the facts behind it. I do know that I am not the only patient that has had issues after their surgery. I am hoping with the revision, I will have the results that I hoped for years ago. Thank you so much for your best wishes.
I would be very reluctant to have another band placed after you had such instances of complications, but that is just me. Have you considered an alternative WLS as a revision and did your new surgeon discuss all of your options (or does he/she only do the band)? In any event, best of luck to you. I had a revision surgery and was out of work for 3 weeks - but mine was an open procedure rather than laparascopic - and it was not revising from a band to another band, so your miles may very. Again, good luck! :)
I have thought about another WLS. I was hoping that the doctor I am now seeing would opt to do something different. Unfortunately, he wanted to do a revision on my LapBand. He does do other WLS, but seemed to think I didn't have success due to the fact that it was not placed correctly initially. I hope his assumptions are correct. It has been a hard road. At first, I blamed my poor weight loss and ill recovery on stress. I had lost my dad and brother only one week apart, during which time it seemed like one thing after another would go wrong with me... I agreed to give the revision a chance....I just hope if it doesn't work that my insurance will approve another WLS. I am worried that I am using my last chance and setting myself up for failure. Thank you for your best wishes :)
