i'm trying to gage where I should be at with my fills.  What's your definition of being too tight, too loose, and just right?

Thank you in advance!

You can't go by anyone else's gage in regards to your fills.  Each body responds to fills differently.  Unfortunately it is every band for itself.  For me too tight is when I can't swallow liquids well.  Too loose is when I can untoasted bread.  Just right is when I can eat some of the foods I like.
What's too tight, loose or just right for you all depends on You.
Take care,
Z

That's the 64 thousand dollar question! It is different for everyone. Roughly if your solid protein doesn't hold you for 4 hrs or so you are too loose. If you are slimming or PBing you are too tight. Again tho it's different for everyone. How's that for a difinitive answer!?

For me, thankfully I haven't been too tight. But too loose I was able to eat too much, was hungry about an hour or so after eating and not being satisfied. Now I am at 7 cc's and I can eat about 4 oz at a time and not be hungry for 4-5 hours. I do have the full feeling and do not snack in between meals. But it is different for everyone. This is just my experience.

Well for me I know I'm too tight when I get acid reflux at night and wake up gagging.  That's happened twice and I've immediately had unfills both times.  The tightness was actually caused by stress, but I wasn't willing to wait it out.

The other two, gosh after two years, I still haven't figured out what it means being just right.  I tend to keep my band on the looser side which means I can eat just about anything if I choose to.  Although I can't eat anything solid til around 10 am and eggs are a no go at any time.

It's so different for all of us, so you really just need to see what works for you.

Too tight: acid reflux, night cough, difficulty swallowing liquids, frequent eating problems (stuck, PB's, sliming) no matter how carefully I eat. Also, I'm likely to gain rather than lose weight when too tight, because I feel deprived and get my calories from soft, liquid stuff like ice cream.

Just right:
Like the legendary "sweet spot" I'm not sure this even exists! "Just right" has been different for me at different stages of my WLS journey. Right now, it means: early satiety (no desire to eat more after eating a few bites of each food on my plate - maybe 1/4-1/3 cup total per meal depending on the consistency of the food); prolonged satiety (meals keep me satisfied for 4-5 hours); reduced interest in food; sometimes I forget to eat, but because I'm no longer trying to lose weight (I didn't ever think I'd hear myself say that!), I have to keep a food log to be sure I'm meeting my nutritional needs every day.

Too loose: able to eat anything and everything in any quantity, requiring a great deal of self-discipline to avoid overeating; physically hungry 1-2 hours after a meal; losing little or no weight.

I keep seeing people refer to PB's -- what is that?

A PB is a productive burp, when you regurgitate the food you just ate. It's not the same as vomiting because the food is usually coming from your esophagus, not your stomach, and contains little or no bile. It's kind of like a baby's spit up.

PB's can be prevented with careful eating, but sometimes they take me by surprise!

Thanks for the explanation. I think that's what I had last week. I've never thrown up since my surgery in October, and this incident didn't feel like vomiting. It was more than a little "spit up" but not a forceful projectile kind of thing and not very much. But it was scary for a few minutes. I couldn't talk and it felt almost like a heart attack (not that I've had one of those), but there was pain in my chest. It really scary for my friend -- I think she was about ready to call 9-1-1. But once I had done the PB, I started feeling better, and never felt bad after that. Good to know it's got a name!

I'm sorry Jean but only eating a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food per meal is very unhealthy .  That is not enough food to get all your nutrients in for the day unless you are taking a  huge amount of vitamins .

If I was eating that little my doc would have me on the table so fast taking saline out of me. Yes , we want to lose weight but once again I'm sorry that is totally unhealthy eating that small amount of food.
