Weight Loss Drugs in Addition To The Band.

Has anyone used weight loss medications to assist in  their weight loss after getting banded? I must admit, I'm tempted to start an appetite suppresant to curb my appetite. I stay hungry. My band is working because I feel full quick, but I get hungry often.

I'm no doctor, but I would highly recommend against it due to the physical side effects and long-term reliancy issues.  Your band is a permanent tool that you have on demand and its just a matter of finding what works for you (don't give up on it yet!).  High-quality, dense, protein-rich foods are the BEST appetite suppressant out there!  You said that you are getting full quickly, but what are you eating to get full?  What is a typical day's worth of food look like for you?  How often do you eat?  Perhaps if you tweak your diet, what times/how often you eat, etc., you can help to curb your appetite naturally.  Weight loss is a lifelong battle, so if you take pills to help supress your appetite and lose weight successfully doing so, what are you going to do thereafter?  Eventually you have to deal with hunger and head hunger anyway and learn what to do to prevent it so you don't gain weight.  It seems the pills will just prolong the inevitable - a lifetime of yo-yo dieting.  I am the master at making sure I am never hungry, trying my best to prevent it altogether.  LOL  This is what works for me to stay successful.  If you can tell me a bit about your daily food intake, perhaps I can help you develop a strategy to curb that hunger...because being hungry is NO way to live, I feel your pain sweetie.  Hugs... :)

Back in 2005 I wanted to have RnY and my doctor told me no, try it yourself first.  I told him I had tried it before by myself and I was frustrated at over 360 pounds with really really bad knees.  He gave me something that would "help" me out.  It was called Dexedrine.  Now while I consider myself a rather intelligent woman, I shut that off with the belief that THIS would be the answer.  Oh, and it was the answer.  For a whole year I took those little orange pills and during that year, without the benefit of WLS I lost 137 pounds.  Guess what?  The second, and yes I mean the SECOND I went off of those little orange pills I started gaining the weight back.  From late 2006 to early 2011 I succeeded in gaining back everything but 20 pounds or so.  If someone approached me with those pills again and told me to take them, I would graciously turn them away.  Even with the knowledge that I would in fact lose weight rapidly again, I would say no.

Did I eat great and work out 4-5 times a week?? Sure, the results were there.  I was HIGH for godsakes.  When the pills were gone so was all that energy and motiviation.  Never again.

Just my 2 cents.  Take it or leave it. :)

Have you thought that you may not be eating enough and that's why you are getting hungry often.  What is your definition of often.  How many calories are you eating.  Before adding an appetite suppressant to my menu, I would analyze my menu and work with it to eat foods that are filling.
Take care and best wishes,
Z

Lap Band on 02/12/11 with
I took Adderall for mild ADD before I had the surgery, but I'm REALLY scared to take it now. Whenever I took it, I'd get really thirsty and shaky for a couple hours...and that was still before the surgery!

Appetite suppressants only work short term. I was getting hungry in the middle of the day and added a protein shake it seems to help.

clearly do NOT use those drugs.

Now, what is the root of the problem?

Are you thirsty? Drinking enough in between meals?

Sometimes our bodies say "hunger" when they mean "thirst"

Check with your doctor too!

Good luck and say NO to drugs!
